Masterpiece Sign Language Clapton and Dylan Really Amazing tune !!
@brunopinto37773 жыл бұрын
I woke this morning feeling bad after a hard week, I was listening to a couple of songs, and I got to this gem. It's been a long time I haven't heard it, but this time I listened to it with more attention. Although it looks like a simple song it's full of emotion. Some people may say that Dylan can't sing well, but the emotion he puts and his confidence is what makes him what he is, and the combination with Clapton's voice is perfect! Oh and what can I say about Robbie's Guitar sound? Three genius.

I knew this song for 30 years, thinking it was droll. There is real significance to the trivial details he adds re the Cafe, the clock etc. It's the way a person in that exact situation might think.

One of my favourite love songs ever. Tha Band playing with Ron Wood in Shangri La studios, this song even if is a Dylan´s song appears in the 1974 Eric Clapton album "No reason To Cry", curious because all these mates were in The Last waltz all together. Eric Clapton has always wanted to be a member of The Band ;-) (it doesn´t surprise me) The Band is one of the most pure class & delicatesssen musicians in the world.
@rizzalater726 жыл бұрын
He never needed "The Band", nor have i ever heard him say he wanted to be a member. Because if he did, it would've been a done deal. I could be wrong about him saying so, but i doubt it.

It's cool that Clapton can take moments like this and release it... it has the sound of one of the Basement Tapes... loose and fresh, full of happy accidents and flubs... two guys singing that don't know how it goes quite yet... and yes, I like it. I wouldn’t be that brave... but maybe I will be...

@@dykeritz9 where did he get Robertson?
@timmcgurl2 жыл бұрын
@@larryrubin5150 "Where did he get Robertson?" Well, this was recorded at the Shangri-la Recording Studio in Malibu in 1976. At that time, circa The Last Waltz, it was the 2nd home of "The Band"! Bob Dylan was (indescribably) living in a tent at the edge of the property near the garden and was often wandering into the studio during many various artist's recording sessions, with this tune being only one of them. Dylan offered "Sign Language" to Eric to record on his 4th album. They recorded 3 different versions of the song and this one (as a Duet with Eric and Bob) was chosen as the track for Eric's lp. Robbie and the rest of the lads in The Band were always hanging out there, hence, his great guitar solo appearance on this session. You can also hear the luscious organ sounds of Garth Hudson on this track as well. I'd say, it was a period in Rock 'n Roll when lots of dudes were speaking in the same musical "Sign Language" while hanging at Shangri-la!

Sounds like Robertson with the pinch harmonics but you’d presume it’s Eric because of the album obviously. This is news to me and i like it. Always thought it was Eric doing his best Robertson impression. Does anyone know if Eric plays on this song at all or is it all Robertson?

According to Robbie Robertson's 2016 memoir "Testimony," Clapton and fellow guitar whiz Jesse Ed Davis were in stitches listening to Robertson overdubbing what he calls his "deep dive-bomb whammy bar maneuvers" and that after two takes "they" said to him, "Nobody plays like that. Incredible! You play guitar like it's an East Indian tabla drum."

I used to play this live. The chords are easy but it took a lot of practice on vocals since I had to pinpoint whether to go high or low at certain points. Fan favorite, and had other players asking "whose song is that?" Thanks to Bob & Eric. *"Link Ray was playin', on a jukebox I was payin' . . ."*

Matt Henderson...can't see a reply button on your comment, but I'm with you brother ! This song has moved me for a long time also......to have Bob Dylan, most of the Band and Eric all on one album was wonderful. EC really admired Robbie's guitar playing . Eric plays a nice bit of G tuned dobro on this track, but I especially love those low moaning sounds that Robbie gets with his wang bar. A much overlooked gem of an album from Clapton.......this one never really moved big volumes.

I have loved this song for a long, long time. Tonight I told my son that E.C. was getting a Robbie Robertson sound on it. I kept trying to come up with something...Was it a joke between Bob and Eric? I looked up the album and Robbie is actually listed on the album. Anyone know wtf is up? That has to be R.R., right?
@pabloperez40638 жыл бұрын
+Matt Henderson Try to get the full album: "No reason to cry". It is a Clapton,s album, but we have all"The Band" on it, apart from many other guests, and of course Eric,s 70,s band. The songs are mostly spontaneous, but they sound today as good as never before. Best blues of EC, his first recording of Double Trouble. The song "Sign Language" happened in a matter of minutes. Bob was there, and he gave it to Eric, and at the same time, he gave "Seven days" to Ronnie Wood, who also plays in the album

This is kind of a curious thing, After The Last Waltz the guys from The Band were just enjoying themselves, hanging out at Shangri La in Malibu, "making music" as Rick Danko says, and were visited by some special friends, this track is one that resulted and wound up on Clapton's " No Reason To Cry " album.
