The original version was off the No Reason to Cry album and has some great whammy bar and harmonics work by Robbie Robertson. I'm guessing the 12 string slide work was done by the late Richard Manuel also of The Band. Jesse Edwin Davis is also on the album.

kinda bizarre that i just discovered this song after being a long time fan and seeing him live 3 times.I happened on this listening to the Hammersmith Odeon 1977 concert. Just Perfection!

The No Reason to Cry album did not get much play or mention ever but man what a masterpiece.It's basically Bob dylan and The Band with EC. Check the credits on wikipedia. It's loaded with talent.

Yyeah Andy Fairweather-Low came on much later, after Claptons rinsing of all his drugs and bad habits, but great to hear a Dylan song perfomed so well......

I had a live version of this song copied onto a cassette tape from I believe the King Biscuit Flour Hour radio concert. That version was better than this one. But thanks for posting this.

back a long time ago I used to love going to an old buddy of mines house and we did alot of things that we shouldnt have drug wise I would always break into this song ..I love the way George Terry ...I read that Clapton said he got to where he was playing what I should have been playing ...sounding just like me ..he was good ..but you can easily tell the difference ...great song though ..although I cant tell you why doesnt make a lot of sense ..sounded like Dylan was on drugs too ...LOL..

loved no reason to cry but sometimes it sounded like Eric was making an appearance on a band LP. I know he was massively influenced by them! I think he once said he felt he wasted a lot of time with cream after hearing music from big pink

I have loved this song for a long, long time. Tonight I told my son that E.C. was getting a Robbie Robertson sound on it (from the album.). I kept trying to come up with something...Was it a joke between Bob and Eric? I looked up the album and Robbie is actually listed on the album. Anyone know wtf is up? That has to be R.R., right?
@texastoneamps2 жыл бұрын
Robbie Robertson played the lead guitar parts on the No Reason to Cry album cut of Sign Language. Several other guitarists had tried, and Robbie, who was in the booth, "rose to the ocassion" and did all that lead work.

You speak to me in sign language, As I'm eating a sandwich in a small cafe At a quarter to three. But I can't respond to your sign language. You're taking advantage, bringing me down. Can't you make any sound? 'Twas there by the bakery, surrounded by fakery. This is my story, still I'm still there. Does she know I still care? Link Wray was playing on a jukebox, I was paying For the words I was saying, so misunderstood. He didn't do me no good.
