That’s just what you want to hear when you pay money to see Bob Dylan … a Chuck Berry cover… 4 of 14 songs on this tour are covers… another Dylan middle finger to the audience.
@gregscavuzzo54577 ай бұрын
He is having a good time and enjoying himself, I was at his Gospel Show at The Uptown Theatre in Kansas City and people were yelling for him to play Like A Rolling Stone, it was announced in advance that he was only playing his Gospel work but people continued to yell , it was typical of some audiences, you can't please everyone, Dylan's current shows where he is playing The American Song are wonderful, he is a great artist and we are lucky to have him, God Bless you Bob and stay safe

@@gregscavuzzo5457 personally I think that Dylan holds his audience in contempt. People are paying money to hear Bob Dylan play Bob Dylan songs - not covers of other artists’ music. I’ve always said that if you want to go to a Dylan concert, make a list of his 20 most popular songs. Then know that he won’t play any of the songs on the list. Unless you’re an uber fan, you might not know ANY of the songs that he’ll play. If by chance he does play a song that you know, chances are that he’ll rearrange it so that it’s unrecognizable (ie Tangled Up In Blue played as a polka). And then of course there are the covers… When most people think of Bob Dylan, what instrument does he play? Guitar, of course. What instrument does Dylan play in concert? Piano. It’s as if he’s determined to disappoint his audience. It wouldn’t surprise me if Dylan decided to play tuba instead of piano on stage. Lastly, Bob plays for 90 minutes. Not 91 minutes. I can’t point out an example, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he walked off in the middle of a song at the 90 minute mark. And absolutely no encores. None of this is new. Dylan was notorious for pulling this stuff when I was going to concerts in the 1980s. My conclusion then, as it is now, is that Dylan holds his audience in contempt. He is on stage to play whatever he feels like playing, however he feels like playing it, and to go out of his way to disappoint anyone in the audience that might have expectations of him.

@@SATXbassplayer The first time that I saw Dylan was with The Band in 1973 or 1974 , then I saw him with The Rolling Thunder Revue in Austin Texas, and I was lucky enough to see The Gospel Tour at The Uptown Theatre in Kansas City, I have seen Dylan play several times since then and I have to admit that there was a stretch around the time he was working with Daniel Laniose (spelling) that I was disappointed in his concerts, but after that, when he was using Charlie Sexton and Denny Freeman his shows were wonderful, he doesn't play the guitar much because of his age and problems with his hands, But his current shows are filled with songs from The American Song Book, the concerts are advertised as such, so you should not expect to hear his hits, currently he has a great band and it's a joy to see him play, and it's a shame you didn't hear him in the 1970s The Rolling Thunder Revue shows were wonderful it was an all day event, Dylan, Joan Baez, Kinky Friedman, Mick Ronson, members of The Byrd's , just a great show, I remember a quote from John Mayall of The Blues Breakers , " If you want to hear old songs stay home and listen to a record"

@@gregscavuzzo5457 I'm envious! I'll bet that there was a time when Dylan was worth seeing in concert. But not in the last 4 decades or so... I'll stand by my opinion. When Bob walks on stage, he is there to entertain HIMSELF. He couldn't care less whether or not anyone in the paying audience is entertained. If he's not going to play the "hits" (I'd accept "recognizable" songs) - then why go see him live? The audience paid good money to see Bob Dylan play HIS songs - that's why they are at HIS show and not the Eagles... If an artist will only play their most obscure songs, they had better be one HELL of a live performer. (Bruce Springsteen could get away with playing only covers and obscure B-sides and deep cuts). I don't think that Bob falls into that category.... The alternative is that Bob Dylan the entertainer holds his audience in contempt. He has no interest in playing the songs that gained him an anudience to begin with - the songs that most of the audience wants to hear. Bob plays what he want to play, how he wants to play it, and to hell with what the crowd wants. It would be one thing if the concerts were FREE... but they're not. If I was at the Gospel concert in KC, I would have been yelling for Rolling Stone as well.

@@SATXbassplayer You probably really dislike live jazz performances, can you imagine Dizzy Gillespie playing Salt Peanuts note for note like the record, or Chet Baker singing My Funny Valentine like the record, these people including Dylan are artists, they are not The Monkees , or The 1910 Fruitgum Company , the artist is not there for you, you are there for the artist, you need to put on a greatest hits record or listen to The Ventures, Dylan is a great artist and his current band, well the bands he has used for the last few years are great, my favorite ones had Denny Freeman and Charlie Sexton anyway I am an old man and I don't have time to argue about nonsense, we agree to disagree
