The song's arrangement sounds simple and melodious simultaneously, but the lyrics is a whole lot loaded with deep lines. People really go through stuff in life. I totally enjoyed the song and the lyrics. You know one more thing I love about the song? The singer made sure every word was audible. Amazing!

I had absolutely no idea what the song was about when I was a kid, because it was popular around the time I was in kindergarten and at some point I talked my mom into buying us Bob Dylan's greatest hits and my sister and I would play it on my little record player out in the garage where there was a pole near one end of the garage and we would just skate in circles around and around it while playing this as loud as we could and other songs obviously from the album. It just felt good basically.

Dylan is a master of lyrics and structure. Sometimes you have to think for years about what they mean but not hear. The only mystery is who he is writing this to. Your thoughts on the song were right on. Enjoyed watching with you.

Dylan's reaction to his fellow folkies in Greenwich Village who criticized him for going electric in 1965. Some other interpretations is when he was hanging out at the University of Minnesota. Check out Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues, arguably the prototype to future Rap Music.

Just thought of something that I should have included in my previous comment. I know you've reacted to an enormous number of The Beatles songs: Bob Dylan had an influence on the band, as they began listening to him after the issuance of "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" in May of 1963, which was an all-acoustic album. In The Beatles song "Glass Onion" on the "White Album," Lennon makes reference to words in Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man ("Just like Dylan's Mr. Jones") from the 1965 electric album "Highway 61 Revisited." Bob Dylan and George Harrison were good friends, George staying with Bob at his Woodstock, NY home at least once, and Dylan agreeing to appear at George's Concert for Bangladesh and referenced Dylan's "It's All over, Baby Blue" in George's "When We Were Fab." After Dylan's last album ("Blonde on Blonde", 1966") and a grueling world tour from late 1965 into 1966 Dylan was burning out from a frantic lifestyle, laced with drugs, and suffered a fairly severe motorcycle injury, which probably saved him: as it is has been said that he didn't just burn the candle at both ends; he also took a blowtorch to the middle. It is also said to that the double album "Blonde on Blonde" influenced The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band." In the song "Fourth Time Around" on Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde", Dylan does a parody of Lennon's "Norwegian Wood" on The Beatles "Rubber Soul" album. Also, George recruited Dylan for the group he formed, "The Travelling Wilburys."

The organ lines that open this song are iconic. I remember hearing them on the radio my mother listened to in the kitchen when I was a little kid. I had no idea at the time what the song was about. I bought the album this is on when I was in college two decades later. The song was released as a stand alone single in the sixties, but later included on his first "Greatest Hits" compilation. The thing about Dylan's songs like this is that while he may have written them with people in his life in mind, he wrote them in ways that anybody could fill in the blanks with the people they knew or the feelings of the times they were living in. So counter-culture youth could grab onto that insult and think it was about the establishment dragging them off to war rather than something as mundane as Dylan venting about an old girlfriend or some such.

Really enjoyed your reaction . . . Dylan's been my favorite artist since the early 70s - I love that so many new people are discovering him. He's a Nobel prize-winning poet and the lyrics of his songs tell the story of our lives. A spiritual, socially-conscious voice who has inspired so many others. Check out Masters of War, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Sarah, Girl From the North Country, Tangled Up in Blue, Hurricane, I could just go on and on . . . enjoy!

If you're wanting a few of the best from his more recent catalogue, id suggest: Key West Thunder on the Mountain It's All Good Beyond Here Lies Nothin' Not Dark Yet Mississippi Series Of Dreams Blind Willie McTell Some of my favourite earlier tracks are (besides this one): Percys Song Desolation Row I Want You Love Minus Zero/ No Limit Tangled Up In Blue If You See Her Say Hello Shelter from the Storm Every Grain of Sand. Officially, i think there's about 600 Dylan songs out there. Also, worth pointing out, most of the tracks are recorded live in the studio, so sometimes there are multiple, vastly different versions of the same song. Anyway, I hope that's some sort of help in terms of suggestions & apologies if you've heard some already.

I have appreciated this song by Bob right from the 60s. The words say so much. Cimdy, there is a more modern song called "Read All About It" by Emeli Sande, which does not have exactly the same sentiments, but similar. Its well worth a listen.

One of the great 'organ' songs but the organ was actually an after-thought. To me, it's the hook that drew fans in. I also wondered how long it'd takeyou to adopt the serious, contemplative face. Such a great look, too. Swooning at Paul and George. Concerned at Dylan. Perfect.
