I'll Be Your Baby Tonight. Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You. Father of Night. For three albums over seven years he had been building up to this album opener. And it paid off.

Was really surprised to find out Bob's never done this live. I had assumed that at some point during the NET he would've opened a show or two with it (akin to Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You). Great table setter for, as a vinyl dork, a side that cracks my Dylan sides top 10.

I like this one as an album opener, because it's fun, fast and catchy even if it's not particularly inspired lyrically by Bob standards, reminds me of the catchier bits off Basement Tapes, like you mentioned

It's in exactly the same vein as I'll Be Your Baby Tonight.

i think it is more sounding like When I Paint My Masterpiece. the song is surely not intellectual, but Planet Waves seems to me the first record of the "true emotions & relationship"-trilogy. there are more songs alluding to the canadian border as bob's childhood space, and to a long relationship, here still pictured as mostly happy.
