For whatever reason Shot of Love has always felt for me like the closest Bob's gotten to the atmosphere of something like Exile on Main St., just pure hothouse muskiness, it's perfect (in my top 5 of his albums, no question).

The amount of songs left off but recorded was the most of any album up til then or now. I have a songbook and there are songs if made into a double album would have been seen by critics as one of the top 5 of his all time. A lot have been put on Biograph, the bootleg series and Trouble no more boxed set

Always thought Shot of Love and Bride's Still Waiting could have been smoking with the searing guitars of the 1997-2001 NET-band. Shame we never got to hear that, even when other songs from Shot of Love were being performed from time to time at those shows.

like @thomascook7948 said: nothing mysterious, it's gospel cliche. still, it sounds much better than "saved", the record. (the gospel live shows seem to have been the real thing.) the first two bob dylan shows that i have seen, started with "shot of love", by the way. i liked it, but was also slightly disappointed, because it still is onedimensional. i like still it, but: two stars. my favorite on this album ist the understated, wonderfully stumbling "heart of mine".
