Met Bob a few years back at a gig in San Diego. Literally the nicest guy ever, we sat and talked about working with youth, the peppers, Frusciante etc.... He took the time to talk to my friend and wife as well. I have pictures from his gig and his album framed. One of the best experiences of my life.

i found this song by accident like around 2007-08, and my oldest brother liked it a lot. He passed away back in 2009 not because of an heroin OD but because of the lifestyle around it. Unfortunately i got into heroin after his passing, it wasn't on purpose but because i was doing Oxy's and they started getting harder to get and heroin was cheaper. But i remembered this song and every time i got loaded i would play this song on my guitar because it was fairly easy. Been off heroin for 4 years now and it feels good to wake up without worrying about withdrawls.

Congrats on your sobriety man. I followed a similar timeline to you. Hooked on various Rx opioids then switched to powder circa 2011. I finally got my shit together in 2018... just graduated from college last month after sitting on our school's Recovery on Campus committee, and am now working with teenagers struggling with addictions. The first couple years of recovery are hard as fuck but doable with the right motivation and a lot of support. That last part is so crucial. If I hadn't been fast-tracked into an incredible gov't-funded treatment program - and then had access to free sober housing after, and a support worker and family who helped me get "reacquainted with life" as Bob puts it - I'd almost certainly be dead by now. Sadly, a lot of people don't have access to those resources, and it's a real fucking shame. Hopefully we can all collectively start doing more to support each other and lift up those members of our society who need that extended assistance to get their lives back on track.

My friend, whose dad was a junkie, always liked this song and played it for me a few times before my addiction really took off. I don't know what made it pop into my head today all these years later but I'm glad it did. Bob is such an inspiration - his book "Running With Monsters" is an incredible read, one of my favourite books about addiction, right up there with "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts" by Gabor Maté.

That's because its not about writing and playing Beautiful music anymore! So sad to say music is just an Industry now and it's all just about money.
