Regardless of what any young person today thinks, back then Band-Aid was responsible for a shift in consciousness about poverty, and the realization that we cannot turn a blind eye to global social issues

I would suggest that Ed Sheeran needs to get over himself. Sir Bob is being very gracious about it, but as he has so rightly said, the fact that this record and it's re-release will have saved so many lives overs the years totally negates any PC-related argument, or criticism of the record.

I’m so annoyed at the criticism.. these people were dying in front of our eyes from a famine and Bob showed compassion and took action 🤷🏻‍♀️ How dare Ed Sheeran push back on this .. I will never ever forget the images of the dying babies and their families .. never ever ever

How gulable must you be to say such sycophantic statements. They are ALL in it for the Money & Publicity.

What the wokes of the world criticising Bobs work fail to realise is the movement of Band/Live Aid was instrumental in fostering the notion of dignity , equality and agency that was prevalent from the mid 80s onwards and lead to many positive changes in attitudes towards those in precarious positions throughout the world. Yes, the words of the song are a bit clumsy, yes there was a lack of black artists in the original line up, and there were too many men, and no-one was in singing in a wheelchair -the fact is it was a monumental shift in consciousness and a genuine human reaction and response to a heartbreaking situation. Don't hate on Bob and what he was/is trying to achieve - he could have easily switched his TV off and forgotten about what he saw on the News that night - he didn't and god bless him for that ...

God bless Bob Geldof. I know the woke people won't like this but who cares! This man and his fellow artists did a wonderful thing back in the day to bring awareness of starvation on the African continent. Maybe the words weren't right (according to the woke brigade) but they were right at the time. Maybe the woke brigade should take a look at the images we all saw back then. I don't think they could handle it, but Bob and his fellow artists surely did!! God bless them all for their contribution to this awful and CONTINUING famine in the continent of Africa. 🙏❤

Bob Geldoff was an average singer of an average little known band. He pulled off a publicity stunt to launch himself into worldwide fame. Africa is a continent made up of many countries. Like any continent on earth, there are the extremely rich and the extremely poor, as well as all those in-between. It would be insane to have shown Yugoslavia in the late 80's/early 90's as a representative of the state of all Europe. Anyway, this is a popular western media thing, from Tarzan to Oxfam or UNICEF ad's with poor little crying African children with flies on their lips. There are 5-star hotel resorts, restaurants, golf courses and stunning beaches in Africa. Bob Geldof has been told (by ACTUAL Africans) that mentalities have changed/what he is doing is offensive and by no means good for Africa as a whole, yet he continues... I guess Bob knows best right?

@@tulyar57 What enraged most Ethiopians was not what he tried to achieve 40 years ago, but utilizing the same tactics now that are no longer necessary or true. The country has moved on, so why keep dragging them into the past and tarnishing their reputation over and over again?

Did anyone in Ethiopia ask for help? I don't think so, so what makes you think they need your help? I guess it is you who needs aid to develop music that charted at number one. This is all about you and your ego, nothing else. Please stop utilizing these false narratives to damage Ethiopia's image.

Saint Bob is so full of himself 😮 it was a terrible song that needs putting to bed. Ethiopia is a strong country now that has self respect m. It does not need our pity.

Bob Gildof did a righteous work at that time initially. But now he is doing it to infuse life to his dead fame. He was long ago forgotten from media due to he has been unable to comeback on stage with new creativity, art or humanitarian work since then.

If I asked for money to fix up a block of flats to help get homeless people off the streets and 40 years later those people were still on the streets but I was now rich.. I'd change my name to Bob geldof

Odd comment. It's 40 years later, so it's not the SAME people that today's £ from Band Aid is being spent on...

@@davidgreenwood3006 But the money didn't help anyone 40 years ago.. it was spent on arms that were used against the people. And I find it bewildering how anyone in the west can ask Africans if they know it's Christmas when those African countries were practicing Christianity for over 200 years before Europe!

Of course, you want it to be number one. When did you last have a number one song? It appears to me that you have run out of ideas or new music; therefore, you are playing your old game, which is quite monotonous. Shame on you! Ethiopia is still trying to change the picture you painted on the country forty years ago, so please stop this nonsense.
