This song stood out from the very crowded pack of great songs I would hear on MTV, yet somehow it has been forgotten by far too many people.

Probably my Favorite. Met him in his home area, Faversham, Kent. I just smiled and brought something small to remember the moment. Just smiled, Thanks Bob

Portrait of a young man with a beautiful wife, a perfect little daughter and a hero's mantle. On top of the world. I had read his 1986 autobiography. My God, if he only knew what was in store for him...

Nice to see this video again. It's been a long time. I bought the cassette long ago out of curiosity after I saw Geldof featured in 'The Wall' movie. I always liked this song.
@DHTC888 Жыл бұрын
There was also the film "Nineteen Eighty Four", the Eurythmics did some atmospheric background stuff for that, I always put that movie in with what you mentioned as well. Also - this version is different than the one I saw here in America back then, the one I saw didn't have the pregnant woman in it and the background singers kept going and sung those choruses over and over. Very beautiful.

Sorry to be a putz, but, are you saying that America is calling to say what an awesome song this is? Because if that's what you're saying, sorry I'm so obtuse but, wow, I so agree with you!

@@mikerundberg8301 Oh yeah, I loved Cheap Trick, though I always used to confuse them with The Knack for some reason back then. And yeah, I'm quite a putz. That's why I always ask to figure out what I'm apparently missing out on. Thanks!

I agree. I've always loved this track and album. It's among my all-time favorites. I also appreciate Geldof's charitable efforts, even with the criticism of it perhaps being naive. At least he cares. I also do kind of like the fact that's he's not mainstream. perhaps selfishly I sometimes like to savor and keep these gems to select company-people who can actually recognize depth.

As a very young Radio Music Director in America in the 80s, at a station that prided itself on breaking new music, (and after the popularity of "Feed the World" and Live Aid), we did kind of a fun on-air feature called "Feed Bob", where we played his music - because of the timing - most of this album - and told our listeners that "Bob Feeds the World so it's time to Feed Bob". Love this song, and Bob Geldof. Thank you for the people you have helped over the years.

oMG, lost track of this song. saw Geldof do this live at Rock Am Ring outdoor music fest in W. Ger, in 1987, when I was 31 and in army. I had a windbreaker that had a british flag on it and I ran into some Brit soldiers... they kinda adopted me for the night. i'm sure we partook of soda pop [i was a 5'2" USA motor pool clerk, so i must have been comic relief for them]...

I will never understand how this song wasn't a massive hit. Bob Geldof had a high-profile because of Live Aid, and this song seemed to have all of the elements to be a huge breakthrough for him. And then... It wasn't. I can't figure out why. The song still holds up well today.
@donnakny99707 ай бұрын
I just discovered it. It’s timeless. He is a real talent and there’s almost no mention of his music on the internet, completely overshadowed by the Live Aid and other charity stuff. It’s a shame because he’s a wonderful songwriter from what little I’ve heard so far.

It always amazes me that people (trolls) will search for a particular song by a particular artist simply to post nasty and derisory comments - what is wrong with these people? Clearly, they have too much time on their hands, too much jealousy in their minds, and no discernible talent of their own. Disgusting. Oh, and I absolutely love Bob Geldof - hugely talented, massively under-rated musical talent.

One of modern musics saints: watch how he allows similar relevant/even greater musician/personalities to sing and perform before he makes a late appearance in "Do They Know it's Christmas - 1984". Geldof arranges for Sting, Boy George and other equally talented and thoughtful people to show their talents and humanity before including himself in the performance... it was about the group effort and concern, not in any way about Bob Geldof, B.G. is a fine example of what makes a good person... and he happens to be talented musically himself. If Mother Teresa can become a saint... Bob's due too. And GB BTR.
