No one song has affected me as much as this one. The more I hear it, the more the feeling grows. I'm 75 yo and haven't felt this way in years, when I hear this song. Youth is wasted on the young.

This song makes me so sad and rips me apart. Can only listen once in a while. Producer Jack Nitzsche had a lot to do with the sound.

Funny thing How we knew From the first time I saw you This feeling here inside of us would have no chance to grow But still like foolish children we pretended not to know 'Til it ended Like the night Looking back I recall The hopelessness Of it all The future didn't matter we just lived from day to day We didn't have the strength to turn and go our separate ways 'Til it ended Like the night I remember how We waited for the sun To sing to the clouds And tell us day was done We didn't think of right We didn't think of wrong We only knew we didn't want to spend those nights alone Now I've gone The way alone All is quiet now And love has grown But still I have my memories And still I can't forget I'll look back on that beauty in the dark with no regrets Though it's ended Like the night I was just a drifter now Just passing through your town Just passing through your town Just passing through your town

I found this album in a Navy Exchange on Guam Island, no less. As I wrote TO Bob, it reminded me that there WAS a World "back there", and it inspires me to this day... ironically, I'm in the Colorado he sung of, 'though I'd never been here... before.

@@Koshirozation svira!

It was an album track.
@goldenmantis4 жыл бұрын
It was originally a shopping mall recording studio that 17 year Bob and his friends paid for. Bob recorded with his guitar in a vocal booth then the recording was forgotten about. 6 years later when he had his elusive butterfly hit the tapes were sold without his knowledge to a producer who put the strings, percussion and electric guitar and bass on. The album was released with substituted track titles to avoid paying him copy write for his music

This is why folk music is better than rock.
@oppothumbs13 жыл бұрын
This is folk rock using orchestration and strings. It would have been booed at Newport Folk along with Dylan.

An album praised by Stuart Staples from the band Tindersticks. They played a superb cover on their latest tour. Check out the video recording of their gig in Nantes, filmed by Arte.tv .

I think you make an excellent point. Also, Elusive Butterfly was great but I tried out a few of Bob's other songs (maybe I just missed out on the good ones). But I am back to look and well this is one good tune I missed out on. Glad to be wrong about Bob. Haunting and Sadly Beautiful like Paul Westerberg, our finest underrated songwriter.
