He is holding back, and in his own twisted brain he thinks this is him being patient. It makes you wonder if this is what he's like when he DOESN'T lose it, it must be utterly horrific when he does.

In their defense, at the start I was super suspicious as well. The guy was too nice. Too normal. Definitely working for the Lab or something, spying on them. Trust noone. Then you see a bit more and realise, oh no, he's just a genuinely great guy. He doesn't belong in this nightmare world, but it looks like he's happy and that's good.

The reveal of Billy's dad being an abuser is one of my favorite scenes in the show. The acting is so good, it is a twist you don't see coming, and it successfully re-humanizes Billy to set up the next season since he plays a bigger role. Without that scene, I didn't think S3 has an emotional payoff at all.

It could be related to any of the story lines going on but u are clearly leading them. people can easily read between the lines and set up subconscious expectations after seeing comments like that. Point is, why leave ANY sort of comment about S3 finale payoff or who plays a bigger role in that season etc. When you can simply just let them react.

The scene with Billy getting scolded by his dad is very heartbreaking , that was the moment when i realised that Billy was more than just an asshole bully , he’s also an abused victim and broken and very deep deep deep deep character actually , sure i know that’s not a hjustification for being the way that he is but it’s understandeable , and i know that not all abuse victim’s turn out like Billy but it’s not so easy as it seem’s , some abuse victim’s can escape the influence of not becoming like their abuser but some cant , it’s just the way that it is , Billy is not weak or anything , he just couldnt escape his dad’s influence of becoming an asshole like him. Billy’s whole point as a character is to show how broken and complex people are , he’s not evil , i sympathize with him a lot.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. It's even more the case when a child grows up with such an influence as Billy's dad. They learn that the primary way to interact with others, even the people you love, is to intimidate them, to dominate them, and if that requires violence then that's what you use. It's so damaging.

Have to disagree… the phone ring has nothing to do with the number it’s associated with. They show Joyce buy a new phone in season one- a lot of people in town probably have that phone- and it would ring the same if it were plugged in at another house.

The combination of the acoustics of the room you had it in, whether it was on a surface or hanging on a wall, maybe even how tightly it was screwed together...it didn't matter that it was the same model phone from Ma Bell that everyone else had. It still had a unique sound. You'd still know the sound of your own home phone instantly. I always find that moment to be one of the most pitch-perfect period accuracies in the entire show, and a particularly impressive one, given that most of the writing team are probably too young to remember.

The moment where Bob stopped and smiled at Joyce was slowed down. In real time, they probably gazed at one another for a split second before the demogorgan burst through the door. I understand why he stopped. He was probably gassed and needed a moment to catch his breath.

36:29 Yes, in the’80s we did look older than those of the same age today. Most attribute it to being outdoors more since we stayed outside longer when we younger and to Spartan’s input of a majority of us playing sports rather than being inside playing video games even though we some, but really didn’t play them that much until we were in the house by night. Bob's death was truly gut wrenching. You got to know this character and get attached to him, only for him to get killed off at the end of the season. Now if you were to do "The Lost Sister" episode as its own episode then it should have followed this episode. Like we see El show up looking like a badass and we the audience wonder "what has El been doing?" and the next episode is the "Lost Sister" where you see what El was doing. I feel it might have worked better like that, either that or edit that episode into across episodes 5 & 6.

You have to remember that el is in an entirely different state (Illinois) so it would have been impossible for her to arrive back in Hawkins, to figure out where everyone is and to help. I do wish that she was able to come in time to save bob though💔 RIP bob Billy’s scene this episode always gets me and I sympathize with this situation. Seeing that little snippet just shows how terrible Billy’s dad is and you see more of how terrible he is in season 3. Billy definitely became one of my favorite characters in season 3. I don't condone his actions, but i understand why he acts the way he does.

You know why they did this to us? Because we didn't deserve him. Spartan, you and many others not only dissed him too early, but for no reason at all. Bob did zero things wrong, came into a family that desperately needed support, stepped up into a fatherly role, and took care of business. Everybody dismissed him because he wasn't the cool brooding character, but Bob is absolutely peak man.
