@HardRockMiner: It's about 2 AM Saturday morning. Couldn't sleep so I got up and tuned in for some much needed humor. Years ago my then 11 year old son loved to stay up and watch a little late night TV when possible during the week (no school next day). One night I told him he had to go to bed for school the next day. He glared at me and in a very angry and gravelly voice he said "I know what you two do in there at night, pointing to the master bedroom, you watch Johnny Carson"! Then he stormed off to bed. He and his family live 50 miles from us today but as I watched this clip I was expecting the door to burst open and see him shout "Aha! I new I was right." Sure miss Johnny and all of the tremendous talent he had on his shows over the years.

Without a doubt, Carson had the finest real life band w/Doc Severinson & band. After Johnny retired, I was wondering where they were playing and if still together? from 7/‘24: R.I.P. Bob Newhart, You’re well loved.

When Newhart did the skit about the witch doctor talking about his advanced age saying " I don't dance around a hut much anymore." is one example of the little nuances Newhart added to his comedic skits that always increase the levity. Plus Bob Newhart never used profanity in his comic routines.

Bob would set up such a fantastic premise that most comics would take over the top, but he was so sly with his low ball style that you never knew what was coming next. Except that it would be hilarious.

I have so many fond memories of back then, watching this with my dad who would laugh like crazy. It was simple, clean comedy. Not always great, but always good. And a certain decorum that is long since dead. Because of network censors, jokes had to be really subtle. And they pushed that envelope as far as they could.

I've always liked Bob Newhart, since I was a kid, in the '70s.

Oh, Bob is cracking me up tonight! I've never seen this episode before and it got me to thinking about some of the Southerners I was stationed with during my 2 year hitch in the Army back in 1968-69. A guy named Atley Donald from Alabama was like the guys Bob and Johnny are talking about. They do sound like a tape running backwards. 🤣

I think that what you see with Bob Newhart is whatt you get from Bob Newhart... no act whatsoever. ❤
