My college art teacher said "Among a lot of painters and art critics, Bob Ross and his methods are subjects of contention, but the results are undeniably successful because he was able to bring effective techniques to the public without having to spend years and fortunes on learning how to paint."
@MamaKat924 жыл бұрын
@@nightkaiju9860 I think that says it all: people aren’t paying these instructions small fortunes each. That’s why he’s so controversial. Beyond that, it’s not even “his” method of painting. He started out painting ‘traditionally’ and learned this particular style of alla prima painting from his friend and mentor Bill Alexander.

Everyone knows that Bob Ross is a painter, but I also recognize him as a philosopher. His fundamental ontological view is animistic and absolutely contrary to reductive materialism. It is akin to the Shintoism of the East. It is in sympathy with German Romanticism, with Schelling who recognized an identical, indifferent, absolute substratum in both nature and spirit. Bob enlightens you to this truth without using specialized academic language, but simply by painting, speaking conversationally, and dropping these koans. He was a very special and unique person and it is extremely fortunate that these videos exist for posterity. Bob isn't here to lull you into the stupor of the lotus eater; he's here to awaken you to a deeper understanding of spirit, nature, the will, and representation.

There must be happy little endorphins or similar. hormones released during the relaxation process.

I painted along to this episode, and the end result I came up with is perhaps my favorite I've done so far. It's not perfect by any means, but the colors all played together in a way that makes it pleasant to look at. I was even pleased with following along to the bravery test at the end. If anyone has trouble with the basecoat on the black canvases, I advise using a very very thin coat of liquid clear, and adding the necessary colors on top before you start letting loose with the fan brush.
