Once in a great while, I'll listen to Seger and remember the great times my friends and I had cruising around, listening to Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band. I'll think about great friends who are no longer here, and smile. Then a tear or two will somehow escape. Then, I'll chuckle to myself and then I'm good.

This song put me on such a cloud when I was just a little kid 6 or 7 years old and I would actually turn the radio off after it quit playing so I could go over and over it in my mind. Then I was too young to know that he was singing about a girl in a strip joint but the melody and music reached way down inside me and did something for me. We had an old radio shack cassette recorder and I got mom to help me record it from the radio and I'd listened to it to help me fall asleep every night for a long time. So here's a big thumbs up x100.

MaxKol Is porototypical even a word? I believe not. I believe the word you were going for is prototypical. My original point was reinforced by this..just like there is no such word as porototypical and is in fact prototypical, there is no such rock star as Bob Segar, the rock star and singer of this song is Bob Seger, there is no A in Seger.

On the recorded version it was Pete Carr on guitar with his amazing licks, however, sometimes on the road, when Carr wasn't available, they would substitute the soprano sax...not bad, really, but doesn't hold a candle to Carr's guitar on the recording, in my view.

Sooo.. Back in the late 80s... There was this rich guy with a big house that would throw awesome free parties.. Food.. Drinks.. Everything . Free.. The only rule was that.. When he played 'Mainstreet",. that meant the party was over... And everyone had to be out of his house before the song ended... No warnings, no nothing...i was like.. See it to believe it .. And sure enough at like 2:40 am.. Mainstreet comes on over the house/yard speakers.... Stampede out of the house.. Party over... I went to like three of the parties and they all ended the same!! True story from New Philadelphia Ohio!

Why are there so few-or actually, NO high or even decent quality live recordings of Bob Seger in the 70’s/80’s, you know, when he was in his prime? Plenty of other big acts of that era do. Maybe I haven’t looked long enough on KZbin, but I’ve yet to find a video I’d watch, and I love Seger.

I can't believe he replaced that beautiful guitar part with that horn. Might as well use an accordion. I couldn't find the original except one that would NOT play. Will try again. Song's still great, along with his singing. Reminds me of Baltimore when I was a lonely kid ending up nowhere, with nobody. I'm glad I did the right thing, but damn, I'm sorry I lost that girl. This song makes me feel the loneliness associate with the whole thing. I'm never gonna recover from that in this world. May The Lord help me. If I've got more than a couple years or so, I'm really going to need it.
