Great to see yet another one of the greats covering this song. For those interested: The song was originally written and performed by Steve Earle, who performed it live several times throughout the early eighties. The first time it made it onto an album was a Waylon Jennings album in 1986. Jennings would then cover it again in the mid-nineties('96, I think). Johnny Cash also put out a version before he died. The original writing credit belongs to Steve Earle, who recorded it for Copperhead Road in 1988.

Steve did a great job writing this great classic... Sounds like a song from the 1880's... But I believe I likes Bob's version the best

that album cover is the north entrance to Monument Valley, one of the amazing places on God's earth.... You can stand on that very place today and listen to that very tune.. Bob's version of this song has to be my favorite... Waylon and Steve Earl also made hits of this rebel tune and of course, Steve wrote the song

Brad Simpson, From what I have read, Steve Earle originally wrote this song in the early 1980’s. Although Earle sang the song at his concerts, he never did officially release it until 2001. Waylon Jennings, a good friend of Steve Earle’s, released the song five years earlier than Earle, on his 1986 album “Will The Wolf Survive”.
@nashburnette4 жыл бұрын
@@Kayte-tv2cw ..... Wrong. Steve Earle first recorded the song in the mid 80s, 1985 at the latest. The song made it's first album release on EARLY YEARS, a Steve Earle compilation that was released in 1987 on Epic Records.
