As the Gotham project becomes more successful and the city is improving, Bruce Wayne’s public persona will be needed more and more, so I’d like to see some scenes where we basically see Batman training with Alfred to be more a gentlemanly, and publicly acceptable Bruce Wayne, like Antonio Banderas training with Anthony Hopkins in The Mask of Zorro.

I think Darwyn Cooke's Ego had it right. Bruce Wayne is the base identity, and Batman is the identity that was created inside him when his parents were killed, which he over time allows to slowly overtake him, leaving a shell of Bruce Wayne, onto which he projects whatever he needs to at the moment. BTW, was this shot on-set? Dano sounds like he's partially maintaining character.

Matt Reeves nailed it in part 1, the suit, the forgoing of the Crime Alley dead parents flashback, the majority of the movie you see Batman & less Bruce. In DKR they didn't show Batman until 46 minutes into the movie. And the 2nd act there was no Batman. They made the car very plausible for one person to build. The genius of The Batman, was the dectective DNA & it was influenced by Zodiac & Seven. It's going to be hard to top this sequel because we have seen the same iteration of rogue gallery over & over that can fit the realistic world. I don't see how they can do a fantasy character like Poison Ivy, MrFreeze, Clayface, and they'e done Joker & Two-face to death.

Mr Freeze makes so much sense for this world and this interpretation of Batman. @rottensquid Жыл бұрын
I think you mistake Paul's comment. He was clearly being sarcastic, and being the actor embracing the character's point of view. Riddler isn't justice. He's vengeance too. He has no restorative or constructive intentions, just sticking it to the people who he feels stuck it to him, and everyone else in Gotham as well. The point that he makes earlier about the film exploring the shadow self addresses this very thing. When Batman confronts Riddler in the Asylum, he's seeing his own hateful, destructive thirst for vengeance reflected back at him, and he's ashamed. That's the point of the film. That's why the final sequence is so important. Without Batman's transformation from punisher to savior, there's no real story. And that transformation hinges on Batman and Riddler being all too similar, prompting Batman to step back from the edge of becoming a villain. Anyhoo, on with the show. Sorry if I spoke up before you covered this stuff.
@BobaTalks Жыл бұрын
I don't think he was, honestly. It's a combination of the two as I go on to detail (and he concludes with also). Batman just more or less went full vengeance as opposed to Riddler's methodical calculated justice (albeit a skewed justice) leading up to 'judgement day', which is soaked in a personal vengeance too :) I paused the video quite quickly when recording so not sure if you got on to the next part!
@rottensquid Жыл бұрын
Oh by the way, thanks again for being such a consistent Batman buddy. I always enjoy your chats. And your Bat-voice was pretty excellent.
@rottensquid Жыл бұрын
@@BobaTalks I think it depends on how you define justice. Riddler was definitely taking revenge on the people who directly hurt him, and profited by it. Was this justice? From a certain point of view, perhaps. But as our old friend Rachel Dawes said, justice is about balance, while revenge is about making yourself feel better, which is why the system is meant to be impartial. And though it's true that the system is broken, that doesn't make what Riddler was doing just, does it? Can revenge be just? Perhaps. Perhaps the Mayor, the commissioner, and poor old Gil Coulson all deserved what he did to them. Falcone definitely did. But did Bruce Wayne deserve a fire bomb? Did Alfred? That's not really justice by any measure, to my mind. That's just sour grapes. And Riddler's ultimate plan ultimately unleashed harm on everyone in Gotham, the guilty and innocent alike. Where was the justice in that? Anyway, thanks again. Totally appreciate what you do!

Loving these The Batman video discussions! 21:19 I feel like maybe with The Joker. Joker has to do something so horrific that almost pushed Batman into killing him. I think of Gotham show, that scene where Bruce thought Alfred died and he beat up Jerome, almost killing him, but restrained himself. A ballsy move, what if that's Reeves way introducing The Joker and have Joker be responsible of Alfred's death? I can picture it, Batman beating the shit out of Joker and detached his Bat-emblem knife for the kill. Joker laughing at Batman to do it. Batman decides not to and gives Joker a speech reasons of not killing him. Alfred wouldn't want him to cross that line.
@MizzAnthrope Жыл бұрын
You're right, Boba. The scene at Arkham *was* delivered differently in the final cut, and it was better in the final cut, imo. The alternate sounds forceful and "on Batman's level", so to speak; he has no doubt there that they've been working together. In the final cut, Dano delivers the lines with more desperation and a sort of hope that, even though he's not as strong physically, his brain brawn makes up for it, making them an unstoppable team. So when Batman shoots him down, it's the *ultimate* rejection to him. Like Reeves said, it's like a twisted love story, where one party thinks they're in a relationship after doing all the work to make the other party love them. Edward ends up being crushed, and he acts out as a result; like a child not getting what he wants.
