There’s a lot to explore with Salina because of how they set the dynamic between her and Batman in the first film. It’s clear, at least to me, that there is not only a divide in ideology between the two; but there is also an attraction. Not only that but in the way they interact it’s like there’s a feeling this can’t be. Initially the feeling of “this can’t be” is due to Batman’s inability to open up to love/care (hence his relationship w/ Alfred). He’s still afraid to be vulnerable. The film did a great job not to ruin this aspect of his development while also giving enough to let the audience know he’s making strides in this area (I won’t list examples here but they’re there). Going back to Salina, she and Batman still haven’t found a common ground in terms of morality or viewpoint yet. As evident by their final rooftop encounter. I mean, she asked him to come with her “let’s knock off some hedge fund types”. She clearly still doesn’t understand the point of Batman. Nor should she. She doesn’t know Bruce Wayne. The film left room for the two to clash in future films from a rivals standpoint, while also setting up a reason for Batman to have a believable level of empathy toward Catwoman.

Loved this video. Even with the strikes hopefully wrapping up completely soon, I hope you will continue this series. I thought Selina was a great character, because it’s rare to see a female love interest who doesn’t just go along with the hero’s plans and help him for no real reason. Selina has her own concrete goals that we understand, and those goals put her into contact - and conflict - with Batman. She ends up either opposing him or helping him unwillingly in every scene of the movie until the end, when she does genuinely help the people trapped in Gotham Square Garden, but even that feels organic because by that point we believe that in spite of her more selfish thief nature, she does care about the oppressed. “Batman went one way, and I went the other way” is also exemplified by the end of the movie, when they’re on their bikes and they turn different ways down the street. I hope that when she comes back in the next movie, it’s on her own terms, and she has her own clearly defined goal that will again put her into conflict with Batman.

Honestly the way i could see Selina’s suit evolving is by going the route of a gymnast outfit but with slightly more protection, almost like a mix of what they did for “THE BATMAN” animated series back in the day and have the ears and goggle combo closer to what Nolan did

I actually thought the voice modulator was a great solution to the whole "bat-voice" problem. Bale's approach, whatever anyone may think about it, was best left behind, simply because it'd been done. And from my perspective, it was a sort of attempt for an actor who doesn't have a big, heavy voice to match what the great Kevin Conroy could do naturally. Affleck is great too, but he doesn't have a natural bat-voice anymore than Bale does. So the bat-modulator was a brilliant, unique alternative that accomplished the same thing. The thing is, now it's been done. Batman movies are constantly facing the risk of being the same old thing we've seen too many times. So they really have to distinguish themselves. Like every new James Bond has to go somewhere a little different from the last to stay fresh, every Batman reboot has to be refreshment of the character. That's why the squirrel suit was so important. No one thinks it's better than Bale's glider-wings. The point wasn't to improve, but differentiate. So I think giving Pattinson the same voice-disguise technology as Affleck would be a mistake. People have seen it, and the last thing anyone wants is a movie that just rehashes Batman. We go to see new Batman movies to see new takes on the character. That's even more true for casual movie-goers, who (unlike some of us fanatics) aren't collecting our favorite Bat-ideas together to assemble our own personal Batman head-canon.

I’ve been saying this for a long time now, but the 2nd movie will be centred around Arkham - I strongly believe a very morally grey scarecrow will be the main villain and Harvey sent will be involved. My own little fan wish is that prisons are being chocked full of criminals. Too many criminals. The police department are letting people free simply because theres not enough space or resources to keep them all, thus not solving the issue of crime in gotham. Scarecrow sees an opportunity to use a modified version of drops to drug people into insanity, so he can move regular criminals to Arkham Asylum. Once he realises this is not enough, he dispersed the drug across gotham to weed out the criminals on the streets, as an attempt to poison the bad people of gotham and to metaphorically cannibalise one another. However with this, there’s a lot of collateral damage with civilians, and a lot of unjustified deaths. Scarecrow sees himself as a hero who can get his hands dirty by using his intelligence and resources to manipulate the system for the greater good of the future. Dent may know about Crane’s plan and whilst not agreeing to the methods, does enjoy the results and is able to utilise the improved numbers for his own election. Ultimately it will still be a detective story, batman will be one of the few to be aware that criminals ruling the streets of gotham are doing down drastically, and that Arkham is getting more and more full. Batman will have to ask himself whether the ends justify the means, and whether petty criminals deserve such severe punishment, and it will test how comfortable he is with death of criminals. Selena may be a victim of cranes drugs, which garners the attention of Batman.

In the background the penguin will be at war with scarface. Start the movie with batman going after Zaz. Then the movies true villain shows up? Two face or even freeze idc it can be condiment king for all i care. Matt Reeves has my vote. No matter who it is.

I think it would be really cool if Selina tries breaking into Wayne manor, but from the entrance bruce goes into, and bruce comes back from fighting crime and he catches her, and there’s this awkward moment where Bruce is speechless.

Once again, fantastic video, lovely thoughts, great insights, fun discussion. I'm sure they're going to do a stellar job whatever they choose to do, but I think it'd be nice to let Catwoman sit out The Batman Part 2 and then step into the spotlight for Part 3 as the main antagonist. And by antagonist, I don't mean villain. Batman and Selina go in different directions physically as well as metaphorically at the end of Part 1. I loved how Zoe points out that distinct moment they go in different directions, the moment after Zoe tries to kill Kenzie. I feel like this split is a key theme of the story, Batman and Catwoman both being on opposite sides of the law, no matter how much they want the same thing. I'd love to see a final film that brings them together, not with Selina coming all the way over to Batman's way of seeing the world, but the two of them meeting in the middle. Batman has yet to acknowledge that the law is pointless if it inevitably fails people like Selina. So he has to become something of a revolutionary, making change to society instead of just enforcing its rules. While Catwoman needs to restore her faith in society instead of seeing it only as a means of oppression and injustice. But society itself has to re-earn her trust, after a lifetime of failing her. That's the story I'd love to see in The Batman Part 3.

For me Catwoman is main character in DC. Every time there has been a new version in live action of her I have been afraid that casting would go wrong. Luckily all have been great in different ways. Even though in my mind carbon copy Catwoman is tall with long legs and green eyes. All have not been that but great all the same.

It would be incredible to see Catwoman hired in the second or third film to steal from either Bruce or Wayne Enterprises. To directly go after Bruce and we see her doing surveillance on him at the Wayne tower. Maybe sneaking in as a fake employee or cleaner. Watches him come and go, but sort of at a distance, so she's not real close up to notice that he looks like Batman. Puts tracking devices on his vehicles. Watches Alfred as well and learns his routine at Wayne Manor. Maybe even finding out that Bruce Wayne is Batman somehow. But I just have to say, I absolutely love Zoe in the role, and I genuinely couldn't see anyone else as Catwoman in this trilogy. She's just perfect. And I don't care what anyone says, I love her design in The Batman. I thought it was genius. I can't wait to see her evolution as well!

The obvious in for Selina for The Batman Part 2 is right there. Reeves already mentioned that the Penguin show will lead into Part 2. And who are we meeting in the show? The rest of the Falcones. And she is a Falcone. That could easily be a plot point as the Gangs vie for power, and Penguin allied with the Falcones rises to full power. And Selina becomes the Falcone her with a claim to the Gotham crime throne.

If Matt sticks with The Long Halloween, Sofia Falcone will go after her. She just stole from Penguin/Falcone and helped Batman "catch" Falcone, who was then killed by the Riddler. I think she's going to get some kind of deal in the second episode, something to steal that involves the Wayne family. Or more likely, Penguin will go after her along with Sofia Falcone. She's too connected to Batman in the first episode, so theoretically she could be a target to get Batman. Lastly, I'd like to add that we'll see more of Selina and Bruce in real life than in masks in the second volume, but who knows.

I think whatever Seline is stealing in the second film wouldn't be simply "diamonds". Instead I could see her stealing something that she needs for her plan towards some sort of social justice. So maybe stealing something from Wayne enterprises which could also get the Bruce Wayne side of batman involved.

Rare Catwoman Mention!!! Why does this guy never talk about Selina? I could talk about her character for YEARS. She’s the catalyst that starts the whole tension in Batman, she starts to pull him out of his black and white thinking. You never really know who she is or why she’s doing it. I hope they show her development of Catwoman in part 2, furthering her life of crime but also showing how much Selina and Bruce get along. The tension between Batman and Catwoman versus Bruce and Selina is so RIPE for narrative development but WE NEVER GET IT 😤😤😤 There’s so much there. So that when she discovers his real identity, it’s such a betrayal. She feels tricked by this rich white boy. But then in Part 3 she comes back and together with Batman’s new allies, helps his fight his rogue gallery and they find some way to be together. Maybe they heal something broken in each other. I need to go back to writing fanfiction 😂

Totally agree. I think the relationship with Bruce and Selina in this film was cut short, and I'd like to think it was on purpose, to give them something to return to. The film ends with them going in different directions, but I think they need to come back together, find a middle ground between his attempts to restore the law and her need for the law to change so it doesn't fail people like her.
