Just beautiful looking water for drift fishing. Steel head fishing has changed (evolved?) from the 60's. From spin glows and wild fish to bobbers, beads and hatchery fish. Maybe better farther north in Humboldt and Trinity counties. Amazing there's no other fishers there. If that was Alaska there'd be 5 others in view. Nice catch!! EXtratufs - Cordova AK, slippers

here is a tip, try setting the hook downstream because the fish is facing upstream. when u set the hook up stream ,u will usually pull the hook right out of the fishes mouth. when u set the hook down stream the hook will set right in the corner of the fishes mouth. hope this helps, love your channel!

Gorgeous fish.. made it all worthwhile. I live 45 min. from my local drift hole, but the steelhead count on the lower Russian river is way down from last year, with only 35 fish (as of last week) making thru the ladder and into the lake Mendocino hatchery. Timing is always an issue, but it's the anticipation of getting bit during the winter run that always draws me back.

Glad to see you finally got a new pair of waders! Idk if you use a different pair for beach fishing, but it's good to see you in some new gear.

Great trip! Up in Oregon Columbia river we can do ok from October to February? I have done great Hells Canyon trips in December and January mostly! By the way I have read many articles that claim "wild" fish don't really exist in our area as they have intermingled with the hatchery population! Also up to 75% of hatchery fish never get clipped upon release! Think about that!! Keep up those great videos!

Perfect, i was just looking for some "deck boots" and comparing Hisea, Huk and some others on amazon. Looks like I'll be revisiting Hisea and using the promo to give them a try. Bought some waders from them over a year ago. Have not worn them but the quality looks and feels good, looks like it'll hold up for awhile

A bait casting reel will help your steelhead fishing. Better drifts and quicker hook sets.

Just a little friendly tip, focus on keeping your rod up while fighting steelhead or salmon in streams! The fish like to roll and will sometimes rush you and will get that hook loose.

Exactly, good video but..at the beginning of these 30 min videos should include a minute on why he likes this pole, the wgt/length, what type it is, the reel selection, what main line, leader plus what lb and length, size of hooks, bobber, which knots he uses, what bait/lures/flys he uses, etc.

No not everywhere in California is barbless. And even if the fish has a tiny fin, it’s still considered a native. You’ll get a hefty fine keeping anything with a fin even if people think it’s a misclipped fin

The more crome they are, the harder they are to see, especially with cloud cover, sunny days are ideal, and you're not really looking for the fish, you're looking for its shadow thats cast from the sun, look for moving shadows and you've find the crome. Its hunting, its the difference between casting a thousand times in hopes, or find the fish then you're able to place the bait right in their mouth 👍

I would highly recommend using either a bait casting reel or a centerpin for float fishing you’ll be able to get much more natural float and miss way less fish cause you’ll be able to keep your line tight to your bobber easier.
@isaiahsperling2464
@isaiahsperling2464 Жыл бұрын
I live and fish in BC Canada and almost no one uses spinning rods anymore just because of how much more productive baitcasters and centerpins are. I would highly recommend learning to use a centerpin reel. It’s a bit of a learning curve but by far the best way to drift naturally and fight fish in a way that minimizes losing them. Anyways awesome videos!

@@Lad733talked and fished with many stealhead and salmon guides who would beg to differ. Extremely rare to see an advanced river fisherman here using a spinning rod and real to float fish. Twitching jigs is where spinning reals shine
