My horse somersaulted with me. I fell directly on the right side of my back and forced my shoulder so far forward that my right clavicle snapped in half and had fragments floating about. I had to get a plate and 6 screws put in. My body rejected the dissolvable stitches, my wound reopened several times. I couldn't properly shower for almost a month, I was in physical therapy for 3 months, couldn't ride for four months, I'm an illustrator/artist so I had to take a semester off school.... this happened in March of 2020. It's December and my shoulder still aches, the skin around my scar is still numb, and if I touch anywhere near the plate it is intensely painful. But I can ride and draw again! And I do both every single day! Breaking the bone is no where near the worst of it, but things do get better! Very very slowly. I just needed to vent about bone troubles. Thanks for the video, guys!

@mountfairweather4 жыл бұрын
No
@celebrationtreeyoga38984 жыл бұрын
Not if the joint you are working on is designed to move that way.! If you do not use the joints in their full ROM, you could lose the ability to move in that particular direction and some of the muscles could become very weak, causing pain and stiffness.

However my orthopedic surgeon says that it will take 3 to 4 months to heal the fracture and rejoin the bones but you don't need clavicle brace for it. Clavicle brace is only required for 3-4 weeks just to balance the body weight and now as 25 days has passed with brace on and the swelling has gone so u don't need it.

Hi B&B - Great video as always. I'm 58 and 10 days since I fractured my right clavicle. Just had a check up and X-ray looks like it's healing in place. Like to know what you'd recommend (if at all) for pre-recovery range of movement exercises? When I took my arm out of the sling for washing it's so stiff and I'd like to get the overall recovery time reduced as much as possible by carefully doing some (supported?)movements. Good advice appreciated. Btw When I fractured the left one at 17 I left the hospital after 2 weeks without any problem on crutches as I also had a Broken Tibia which did need a bit longer! 😉

Let me put this out there for anyone who may have experienced this. I fell out of my semi truck last Friday because the mechanic had the steps off and he didn't tell me. I fell from approximately 6 ft onto a hard flat concrete surface. I landed on my left shoulder and towards my left chest where the left clavicle is. It hurt like hell but I was able to leave the yard and make a delivery 700 mi away with some pain but not completely debilitating. I finished my delivery on Sunday two days later and it was really starting to hurt and I could hear the arm ball popping. I felt with my fingers the length of the clavicle and could detect no break or misalignment. Last night I took a shower and really looked at myself in the mirror comparing both sides and I can see no difference as far as swelling, misalignment or lumpiness. Today on Monday when I woke up it was hurting really bad but the popping of the arm joint has reduced. Is it possible I loosened it up and while it's healing it's starting to restore itself? I am going to go to the doctor but right now I'm stuck at a truck stop and barely able to get out of bed and I don't know anybody up here in SLC. So basically after that long background, my question is, could I have bruised it and it's going to heal up without actually being broken? I'm not asking for a diagnosis, I'm just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience?
@teresapetersen1690 Жыл бұрын
I also fell out of semi while missing the step & landed on my left shoulder . It took a good year to get beck to normal. I did everything with my right arm , closing trailer doors , cranking landing gear hopping up in tractor . Years later I actually broke my left collarbone . Still healing . Range of motion still not what it used to be . I’m glad that I was no longer driving semi when I broke my collarbone because I would have been out of work for too long .
@telcobilly Жыл бұрын
@@teresapetersen1690 It was a broken clavicle with the fracture being at an acute angle. This caused it to take longer to heal. Even used a bone growth stimulator (no jokes! Lol ) I'm healed up now 2 years later and retired in the Philippines. It really was a blessing in disguise. I got to spend a year in Texas with my family on workman's comp and SS. Once I was medically cleared, I moved to the Philippines. My arm is about 90+% of what is was..

Keep the brace, the thing around your clavicle, on for a good amount of time or it won't align nicely. Keep checking the level of your clavivle by comparing with with the other side, that it's neither too raised nor too pressed down. Rest you'll be fine as wine in about 3 months. Best of luck.

Read a meta-analysis on healing for broken clavicles with surgical interventions like plating and screws. It actually said mean full healing time of 8 months, plus or minus 5 months. What do you typically experience in terms of full healing time for a sixty year old, mid clavicle break in 3 pieces, active. Also, do you see comparative slow healers, I have one 70 plus year old friend who heals from torn soft tissue like he was 16.

When I broke my collar bone in Summer of 2020 and had to get surgery, this is the video I watched and it really helped me keep my mood up! Bod & Brad are great ! I only did the exercises after my bone was healed and waited until the metal plate they screwed into my shoulder was removed again. Ask you doctor before starting to exercise with a broken bone! Hey listen, if you're reading this now because you've broken your collar bone, let me tell you: You can do it ! What helped me was programming and sitting for a lot :D I also made sure to eat very healthy and watched my Calcium and Vitamin intake :) It get's better with time, but make sure to rest a lot in the beginning ! Give your body time to do the healing ! Get some cooling pads (cold compress pads) you can put in the fridge and and put on your shoulder, they work wonders in my honest opinion. I know it sucks, but I was exactly there in that spot and I know the road ahead, but I'm telling you time flies and let your wound heal with a little patience. :)

I broke my clavicle into three pieces, with a couple of "chips" floating above and below. When I needed to stop my scooter from going into traffic, I happened to brake right on top of a piece of metal left on the road, I was sliding on the gravel left from the paving company, so I had to lock up my front brake which pitched me on to my right shoulder. I missed getting run over by two inches. I think I cracked a rib as well. My surgeon put in a five-inch plate with five screws, one of them was bone to bone, to pull them together for the plate, and the other four were on either side of the main break. Now after a month has passed since the accident, I am still having a lot of pain and redness. Even if I touch the hairs on my chest, it is very painful, and all around the incision it is numb and it feels like hard clay underneath. The scarring looks horrible where he cut me near my neck, all of the skin is bunched up and rippled. I'm wondering if anyone else had the same results?
