I failed the first two miserably. I do those exercises on my total gym. I'm a renter so, no holes like that can go in the wall :-) When I tore my rotator cuff 20+ years ago I rehabbed it on a total gym. The first two you showed and one other to build the surrounding muscles while the tear healed. Slow and easy starting with minimal resistance.
@andyvargas76413 жыл бұрын
What workouts did you do
@lavapix3 жыл бұрын
@@andyvargas7641 First and foremost I'm not a PT or a doctor. This is what works for me. Consult with your doctor before trying any of these. I really don't know how to go about describing them but I'll try. On my Total Gym at a lower resistance level than my usual, I simulated upright rowing going just past my back and slowly returning. 3 sets of 10 to start. Then right into pulling the bands to my chest 3 sets of 10 and then curls 3 sets of 10. In one set I do the row 10 times and right into the chest pulls and then the curls. A brief rest and the 2nd set of all 3 then rest and the 3rd set of all 3. This is what works for me. If it hurts the injured part I don't do that exercise. 3 times a week to start out. Don't overdo whatever exercise you choose. Take it slow. My goal was to strengthen the surrounding muscles while the tear healed.

Hello Bob & Brad, Thank You both for your information; while watching the tests I initially thought how much pain I have been experiencing anytime my left arm is in any of those positions. First when taking my shower there’s pain lifting my arm to do almost anything, massive pain while drying off, as I am putting on my shirt in the morning and my jacket, computer backpack. Or when I try to scratch my back, I cannot reach higher than my mid buttocks, any more than an inch or more and the pain is intensified; so I know I can’t touch my waist at all. I can’t believe I have waited so long, thinking that whatever is causing the pain would go away, and I have put off going to the doctor. I have made an appointment, now I have a better understanding of what to tell the advice nurse/doctor. Again, I am so grateful for both of You amazing doctors!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏

I think I tore my cuff 37 years ago. My doctor told me it was bursitis but he did not even examine me because I was in his office for strep throat and heaven forbid he actually diagnosed anything else at the same time. I had never heard of a rotator cuff back then so I took his word for it. I know that if I had tried all three of these tests, I would have failed them miserably. By the end of the day it felt like my arm was pulling out of the socket and I had to support the weight of my arm to relieve the pain. I could not lay in bed at night from the pain. I would start out in a recliner then during the night I could finally go to bed. It took 4 1/2 years for it to finally heal. At the end I was taking 3000 mg of buffered aspirin a day when I hurt my back. That's what finally healed my shoulder. After seeing this, I am more convinced I tore my cuff.

Hello! I’ve had a shoulder issue for 6 months or so. I’ve been having regular massages, icing, and rest without any improvement. I’ve seen the doctor, had x-rays, next is an MRI. I followed along and did all the impingement tests and was positive on all. This comment is directly related to the empty can test. I disagree with the recent findings stating you can complete the test with your thumb up versus thumb down with the same result. It may differ depending on the degree of tear or impingement. With my thumb up, my range of motion was greater before I had any pain. With my thumb pointed down (as if emptying a can) I could barely raise my arm and pain was immediate. Keep up the great work!

@@xzx3 Such wise counsel! Thank You! ❤️ I appreciate your note. I sure hope you will be feeling better soon. My last surgery 9 weeks ago has been a tough one physically and emotionally. I know I am not ready for another painful recovery. I am hoping I can hold off till sometime next year. I’ve had 3 surgeries in less than a year. The first one was last June to repair a hernia and Diastasis recti. Then I got Covid during my recovery and it was rough. All the coughing contributed to having my hernia repair fail in one place so back I went the beginning of March this year. Then I had my big surgery- fleur-de-lis Panniculectomy 9 weeks ago to remove 14 pounds of excess skin after 200 pound weight loss 5 years ago. I once again had more of my Diastasis recti repaired above my navel and massive scars hip to hip and sternum to lower incision. This has been trying mentally as I’ve dealt with wound vacs and drains and sleeping upright in a recliner for weeks. 🤦♀️ I saw my primary doctor this week for routine appt and he was downplaying a rotator cuff surgery saying he knows several people who did just fine and it wasn’t that bad. I told him I have a couple of friends who told me rotator cuff repair was extremely painful and a long recovery. I am going to give myself plenty of time to gear up for it before I go under the knife again. Please check back here and let me know how your repair goes. I hope your wrist heals up well❤️
