I enjoy watching videos by Bob and Brad. Very informative. COTA in Indiana and been one for seven years and counting. There are pros and cons of being the assistant vs being the one in charge. I am glad I became a cota bc I get to work more so with patients and depending on the setting you work in, you can make more of an impact on patients despite making less money but good enough to live on. It's a little discouraging that from my experience, these facilities care more about productivity, increase patient volume on its therapist, making money. It's not about patient outcomes or patient care. Too many places are a "patient mill". That just leads to burnt out therapists. Before covid it was hard to find a job in therapy. Complete opposite now. Great profession but the healthcare system needs revamped.

Our PTA program has prerequisite core classes in phase 1 including multiple A&P, math, English, etc., and to get into the second phase, you have to meet a lot of criteria, including a certain GPA, specific score on a teas test, and volunteer hours. It’s indeed heavy 😂

Interesting to hear about PTA admissions in other parts of the country. My PTA class had 120 applicants for 32 spots and the average GPA was 3.8 with about half of the class having bachelors already. We also had interviews that weighed equally with GPA for your admission score.

Been a PTA for 11 years. After 10 years I switched to just PRN and it was the best decision ever! I make my own schedule, work at multiple facilities to avoid burnout, pay is better and it gives you time to focus on other passions, side hustles, KZbin 🤣.... Sorry but massive college dept to make a lil more is a bad option when we now live in a "gig economy"... people are literally getting paid to cuddle🤣🤣....no degree needed 👍🏼

Bob & Brad, what do you think about the 15% cut coming in Jan. 2022 for PTA/OTA? Do you think assistants will be a thing of the past? I was a COTA for 30+ years before I left after Medicare continued to make cuts, and it was difficult to find a job.

PTA here in good old Louisiana and I've got to say I am shocked by the statistics. As a new grad I have a great job that I love and I am netting 40k per year. Not including my PRN position. I have seen people getting upwards of 50 for PTA. I guess not everywhere pays the same, but I do believe PTA's bring value to the market. Only getting 18k per year is tech pay to me. Awesome video guys! Also, for my program it was crazy competitive. 100 would apply and that would funnel down to 26

I had prerequisites to get into PTA school… I had to have, it’s South university, psychology 101, English one and two, College algebra, anatomy one and two, public speaking in medical term analogy for sure. There may have been more. I think that was it. A TEAS test that was competitive. Of course all the vaccinations and we did have to shadow 40 hours. It was kind of a lot of stuff. Definitely not too bad and very reasonable.
