Referenced in “Don’t Cry for Me” a novel by Daniel Black. “I saw other singers too, like Bobby “Blue” Bland. He wasn’t very popular then, but he had a smooth, clean voice I liked, especially when he sang Cry, Cry, Cry.” That was my song. I’d hum it at the post office to get me through the day or whenever your mother made me mad.” What a great novel so far. Please purchase your copy and read it asap. Beautiful picture painted of a time period that I can only imagine. The Daniel Black does a great job of bringing it to life.

Oh my I know I had to be about 9 years old when this song 🎶 was played on my father’s jukebox. I didn’t understand the music 🎶 back then like I understand it today in my years of 68’ years old. Good music 🎵 still sounds good in 2022’ 😊

Cry, cry, cry, cry That's what I want you to do And think about the lonely nights That I sat alone and cried over you Cry, cry, cry Let me see you shed a few tears Maybe you'll realize What I've been going through for so many years I want you to cry, cry me a river I want you to, yes I want you to cry me a sea Yes, I know someone's gonna hurt you Just like you been hurting me Woman, I want you to go out and cry I want you to get on your knees and cry, baby Woman, I want you to cry, cry, baby Cry, cry, cry Let your tears fall like rain And maybe I'll realize That my love for you wasn't in vain Cry, yes I want you to cry Yes, I want you to get on your knees and cry

I have to concur with sweetytwome2 about the video. I fail to see ANY connection with the music or Bobby Bland. He's my all-time favorite blues singer. I saw him several times in person years ago; he sounded just as good on stage as on his records, and his band was the tightest! I have virtually everything he ever recorded, as I started collecting 45 records in the 50's; I treasure all of them, even though I have most on CD's now as well. He was the GREATEST blues man EVAH! R.I.P., Bobby!

I think what the video producer is attempting to do is to put the song in the context of what the contemporary culture was mostly paying attention to while the song came out. By inference, the video tells us what people were not paying attention to. I find it a kind of effective device.
