To everyone...you don't need to know what he's saying. This man is clearly showing that the voice is an instrument first and foremost and that it can be transformed into anything you want. He's immitating basslines masterfully, singing in violin ranges, creating natural effects that give off an ethereal vibe, all while chanting. Normally people need a whole ensemble to do half the things he's doing. Chick Corea is already a freak of nature but, Bobby McFerrin is also a legend. Don't try and label his talent or try to approach it like some science project. Don't call it 'noise'. Just appreciate great music.

Back when I first moved to LA I used to work for Chick and Gayle Corea at their home in Hollywood. I was their Estate manager. I ran the house and grounds for them. At that time I had a backstage pass to any show he played anywhere. I utilized this when ever I could! An an amazing performer and an sweet guy. I did catch a show of Bobby and him at a small theater in Hollywood. What a show. Most of the audience were singers and gladly sang along when Bobby asked. I'd never been in an audience of that many great singers! They all sang on key and followed Bobby's directions like they were in his chorus. A sweet memory I'll never forget

I believe he gets that effect waving it back an fourth by having a noise gate on his line in. I don't think it would be nearly as dramatic sounding without one.
@jacobhelbig4 жыл бұрын
@@chester82gtstang i mean, there might very well be a gate on there, i don't know, but you can get that exact effect without one. as long as you're using a dynamic mic, hold it relatively close to your mouth, and turn the gain down, you're good. edit: i don't think he has a gate on there. he's doing a lot of pretty quiet noises with his mouth that would be cut out by the gate, and the effect of him shaking the mic back and forth doesn't make it completely quiet at the point where the mic is facing away from him, just noticably quiet*er.*

Did you pick up on _why_ they share that moment? Chick is playing substituted chords through the passage, and normally the bass would stick to the chart, but Bobby _follows Chick through the substitutions_ despite them being improv and non-standard. Chick hears it, looks at Bobby... and they're both already smiling. Road chops, like reading each others minds... a statement to their cohesion, and breathtaking to see captured like this.

First time I ever heard a version of this number that I liked even better than the original Seventies recording. Going so stripped down really allowed Corea to pull out all these different expressions his fertile mind could pull from the melody and structure. Most especially, I love the absolute restraint he used. Fewer notes, more music. And he hardly repeated anything! He kept showing different ways to speak the music. Just amazing, amazing, amazing and utterly joyful to listen to. And, oh, Mr. McFerrin wasn't half bad either.

“Spain” cobra en esta versión una frescura admirable. La melodía de Rodrigo renace de los clichés y así, mestiza y desenfadada, nos aparece como una hermana que regresó de un largo viaje remozada. Si Chick Corea nos había ofrecido una adaptación conmovedora, “El concierto de Aranjuez” en la voz de McFerrin se vuelve de su siglo gracias a un negro americano. ¡Una gozada! No ceso de disfrutar de este atrevimiento musical. El juego es fuente de creatividad y deleite.
