I bet he took 'good care' of her alright lol! Great old melodious R&R classic in an unusual 1980s format.

Also around that time, the U.S. Rhino label issued some extraordinarily collectible box sets, of 50s and 60s oldies on vinyl 78s, in 25-disc boxes! Very hard to find, for sure.

@@jeffboettcher2531 …I’ve never seen reference to those over the years - hidden away in treasured collections I suppose.

@@IVORIESMAN When I get to my next break, I'll share a link that documents an example, as well, Both Sides Now has documented three such box set collections, with a fourth known too.

Nice song, thanks for posting. From what I've heard, some businesses kept their old 78 jukeboxes several years after the 78s stopped being made. Seems a bit strange when you could have upgraded to 45s. Would have made ordering records easier I think...

I get why the 78rpm juke boxes remain popular - it’s to do with the mechanism and visual experience I think.

This - vinyl, 78 (so better than 45 and 33 _all else being equal_ ) - should have been the best quality available, presumably! (Though you've got it at a rather low level, and I think I can detect wow at times!) Or is it from the 1961 stampers, and the master was recorded on tape, and a bit compressed for 78 use (as it seems very uniform in level), with the 33 and 45 versions less so? Interesting, anyway

Well I never thought my uploads would be held up to such scrutiny..😊 Important to point out that this is recorded live, video and audio with all the pitfalls involved in that process. I have compared the 78 reproduction to the 45 and true to say the 45 does have more clarity but suffers from some over modulation as many of these early 45s do. The 78 tends to be a little muffled over all. There may be some slight wow toward the end but this is evident on the 45 also.

@@IVORIESMAN The criticism is just that - an honest response, not criticism for the sake of being negative! I'm a great fan of your channel (not least because of the old Garrard!). Interesting that the 45 is different in the ways you describe. So the 45 has wow too! Is it at the rotation speed in each case, or is it too hard to tell (it's only slight here)?
@IVORIESMAN10 ай бұрын
@@G6JPG ...in my opinion the speed is not relevant in this case in respect of wow, it sounds as though the deed was done on the original master... The "old" Garrard..😮.. Interesting you should refer to the old faithful as "old" - you are right of course but to me it's still as fresh and pristine as the day we purchased it back in 1971. btw - thanks for your support.

@@IVORIESMAN I love watching the mechanism. (You should let your videos run to where it parks itself, too.) I think I had one once. That or a BSR (built like a tank, with a definite shipyard feel!). You clearly take care of it. (I've been subscribed to you a while.)
