I am so glad that i am one of the 0.01% of people who thinks and knows this foam thing is wrongly marketed. *It does dampen steel harmonics.* Same scenario as when you tap a hollow steel tube and one filled with any media in it. Effectively foam in metal is more of sound damping material than structural improving. The other thing i am seriously pissed off is they claiming it is closed cell foam. When clearly during application there are bubbles in it during chemical reaction while curing. I bet none of these guys ever bought closed cell or open cell window seal at Daiso at all. Then they can see what closed and open cell actually look like. And the most funny thing is cars like this Audi is already Euro NCAP 5 stars. It is as safe as you can get. Unless companies that makes these foams are willing to use any of these 5 star cars foamed up and send them back to try to break their rating system. Which i am damn sure they will not. This product while more than 10 years should never be marketed as safety product. That is a primary concern if someone sends a 3 star car like the old Saga or Myvi and hopes they could get 4-5 stars out of this job.
@qisrabutik75545 жыл бұрын
It shows how little you guys are educated.. Don't simply jump into conclusions.. There are various types of PU foam which does the job.. Even in some countries, they use PU Foam for structural strength.. The rigidity depends on the foam, some from super soft to soft to medium to hard to super hard to super rigid stiffness.. And for your "engineer" info, modern world uses glue to construct high rise building as it is another extremely super rigid material to do so.. And of course, it is not gam gajah or gam UHU or even gam biasa lol..
@trustgtr335 жыл бұрын
structure is design so that some will collapse to absorb accident impact, how does this effect the structure after applying the foam? i am sure engineers have designed rigidity from the start..dont think i would wanna change that with some foam..lol
@Davyjones54544 жыл бұрын
Foams as good at compressive strength. But not good at tension and shear strength. So I’m not sure, if your claims of it increasing safety if valid ? Since during a crash the car pillars are subject to compression , shear and tension stress. However it does lower the noise and vibration, since foam dampens vibration.

@Bobby Ang Add foam to all components where necessary, except the side sills. Instead of adding foam, you replace it with heavy steel bars. With heavy steel bars in place on both sides of your car, it will lower your centre of gravity (cg) to the lowest and keep your cg closest to the centre when cornering or turning. It will keep your vehicle safe and steady to prevent roll-over, just like what the Tesla did to their vehicles' side sills to maintain perfect safety test scores. Mercedes also engineered this into their S class models.

@skleo77655 жыл бұрын
I've done it before long long time ago. It's not all positive feedback. Of course people will always brag about how good the handling etc... But remember that the process is irreversible! So, if YOU FOR SOME REASON DON'T LIKE IT, TOO BAD... YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT FOR LIFE OR UNTIL YOU SELL YOUR CAR. At first, I like it but the ride is quite harsh (like putting on adjustables as what Desmond says) and it became not as comfortable as it was before. Hence, sold the car and that's it.
@Darrentzx5 жыл бұрын
Harsh as in very sporty and stiff?
@wanamen61255 жыл бұрын
Really?so it become stiffer although using the original suspension setup?
@skleo77655 жыл бұрын
To me it was really harsh and stiff. Imagine putting adjustables. That's the feeling. Noise reduction maybe 10-15% thereabouts. Anyway, think whether you can really live with adjustables before you do it coz you can't reverse the process after you do

Is the chassis structure made hollowed (aside of saving cost) is to make it collapsible, absorbing impact during a collision or rollover? Foaming it up would alter the designated strength zones, right? I'm not sure also

good luck with your foam. a) reduce heat dissipation within the car. b) no weight gain?...you are spraying across most of your chassis , not one slice. Of course it weight almost "nothing" with the small part of it. c) foam chemical reactions over time, and you smelling it. nicezz....it's like slow slow vaping. Go read SPF hazards. Or maybe they are using animal-safe chemicals. d) crumpled zone compromised. any (ahem) situation, the car will take more than 2 times the impact energy, and where does that go?... the screws in the car?. e) stiffens the car, where all vibration goes to other parts. Wear and tear on mounts increases. For those advocating for soundproofing, audiophiles and telling me "nothing-happened-to-me-for-years", and "WTF am I jabbering about noob" .... All da best to ya. Just understand what/why you are doing this for, and how you intend to drive the car. PEACEEEEE !.

Roof lining drop are normal for conti especially the German to have the lining delaminate between the cloth and roof lining board. The main culprit is the failure of the sponge lining between the cloth and board. The sponge material deteriorate causing the two to separate, hot and humid weather made it worst. Nothing to do with the glue acutally. Replacing the sponge with a high quality foam should make it better. I have seen Civic with this issue but more with conti make like VW, BMW and Audi. Cheers

When they let you stand on the foam product samples, have you ever thought that in the case of an accident, no car (yours or the opposing one) is going to gingerly apply the collision force into each other? You should jump on it with whatever weight you have on it. As what some skateboarding people who snaps their board calls "focus their boards". That is the only way you can know the true strength of the product. As a "sponsored" segment, i would not try to discredit their company nor yours. But as a car nut, i hope better understanding of the product from various parties is better than many years of installation rep with a very small number of people that actually log their experience.

I opt for autofoam track package and full interior soundproofing with Desmond. My verdict is autofoam did improve handling and composure at high speed along sweeping bends, albeit marginally. 2 years after autofoam was applied, I returned to Desmond for engine decarbonisation and that’s when we discovered autofoam was still leaking from the undercarriage, I gave him benefit of doubt that it was due to poor workmanship instead of poor quality foam used. Nevertheless, you should look elsewhere where soundproofing is concerned as he is not a specialist in this aspect. He slapped on bit and pieces of bitumen adhesives on each of the four doors and the trunk and declared it the best NVH outcome to achieve the laughable ” airy” feeling. In hindsight , I learned that proper soundproofing should encompass vibration damper, noise insulator and noise absorber. So moral is, you can go to them for autofoam but soundproofing is a big no
@BobbyAngmalaysia5 жыл бұрын
It's not leaking, it's expansion of the foam that pushes it out after they fill it up.

@@ekew1974 they can resale sound proofing package later. It was offered in many car makers especially Perodua. They try very hard to offer my wife with cheap material but expensive price. Manufacturer won't give us a 90% or higher satisfaction products. Then got room for us to modify/upgrade. It is just a money matter problems. and main factor is less process, less cost, less problem. previous proton doing that to save cost. You see Geely now increase their productivity and apply more sound proof material. Toyota did it well. I checked my old vios. They have foam inside all the pillar corner area but not whole places la. That's the reason why Vios quieter than city and saga etc .... same goes to Mazda 3. the 2014 model come with empty pillar. The new 2019 mazda 3 had inserted a lot foam to absorb the vibration. I am mazda 3 owner. I can really feel the improved NVH. As for rigidity, I am not sure. I did DIY foam up my proton before. The NVH improved a lot but can't tell if any structural improvement as I installed full ultra racing bar and full adjustable.
