Good points on improvement, I looked at all that gravel / pebbles and said to myself what a waste of opportunity to better the build. Love the floating bench idea and totally agree on the lounge area needed to be paved. The other thing with using so much timber in the design is what people don't think of..... timber deteriorates over time and is high maintenance - if using timber it is best to make sure is has cover from the outdoor elements. Do more build break downs like this - really enjoyed it!

Trendy and contemporary, but doesn't work at all with the house. Also, just like all trends, it will be dated quickly. Very informative though...👍 Agree with literally everything you pointed out. These shows are kinda fun, but since the magic of editing is used either way, why don't they implement things properly and do the heavy lifting to make it right initially and then get the friends and family to help with the finishing elements over a weekend so that it still fits in a show. Great tips, off to watch more of your content. I'd love to see some before and afters with a great breakdown of the how and why. I'm looking for ideas for my brother's city backyard and binging videos. So far what I'm seeing are a ton of timelapses of lame deck builds and really flowery cottage style flower gardens for people who like high maintenance. There's definitely room for your style. Even better if you can incorporate eco and sustainable aspects. Thanks 👍
@BobbyKDesigns
@BobbyKDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
@Andrea Bell thank you so much for the comment! Sounds like your brother is in good hands. Yes, there are lots of KZbin channels that show time-lapse of their work showing the before and after effect. Those are great videos and can give lots of ideas but the one thing they typically lack is the how and why. I run around 60 projects a year and will be showing some of them from design to finish throughout the year in the channel. When I break down the design I definitely cover the how and why so stay tuned for those. See you soon!
@LaughingInTiny
@LaughingInTiny 2 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyKDesigns actually if there were more great designs I'd love the time lapses, you can get a lot from them from a big picture pov. I like Atmoss Vert's channel because he does a video on each segment and then a timelapse of the entire project at the end as it's own video as well. It's a fantastic format because you know you can get a more in depth explanation of any of the things that appeal. I'm sure there are other good channels that blend modern GOOD design before and afters with content. I just haven't found them yet. And I've searched everything I can think of. So there aren't ENOUGH of them 😁 I'll be staying tuned!

Be mindful of your weather's behavior. I say this because I bought my home 1 year ago and found the wind here brings lots of dust and sand from local farms nearby. So placement of fences or privacy screens may tackle more then just security and privacy. So get to know your weather prior to your decision to makeover your yard.

First time viewer and I have an outdoor landscaping outfit. Yea I didn’t even notice their raised garden until you verbally said it was there. The problem that I see in 200+ photos I’ve looked at for ideas, People do some Accentuating Add Ons HOWEVER their Plants they put into the raised Cinderblocks bed are usually Horrendous and have no theme, have no accenting power, it all blended into to the backdrdb. $2500 ?! What in the world?! Lol Where do u get ur workers from in 2022? I mean Prepping renting, workers, Cement, Cinderblocks, Floating, Masonry work, STUCCO or Pdump truck full of wildly-mediocre blended, assortment of Rocks and so on. I. Currently am finishing up a 4 Level / Row of Cinderblocks w/ Capsstones etc, It’s going to have a Long Wooden Bench up front in the middle, w/ some Planter Housings for each end, maybe do a Water feature as Ed 1 of the planters. N RC I also had to pour Custom concrete pavers 4x2, put in White Rock gardens all around so I’ll see how the final Project(s) look….)Oh I’m having to do all by myself. Finding help is difficult to Say the least and So I just gave up on training new ppl ya know.)

15:59 DIY people you MUST understand that there are odds for you to make a project of this level work from concept to construction and the dollars saved doing it, but it is not very likely. Yes, there are people who are incredibly gifted and can nail a project like this one on the first go, but thats not realistic for the rest of society. A project like this is way easier when you have a highly experienced person over your shoulder planning everything and telling you NOT what to do so you don't have the experience of failures in time and costs - design side and construction side. With that said, they showed a shot with about 13 workers @ 12 hours each for 2 days = 312 hours. Depending where you live, what market that can average between $25-45 per hour. At $45.00 per hour that's $14,040.00 JUST FOR LABOR raw without any mark up from insurance and overhead that must be calculated on top of the base the 14k. Then entire project I would not build for under 40k. I've built 36" x 12" x 30' planters with footings and green screens for $30k+ that took 5 days with 4 crew. Tips: ***Avoid pit falls of soil removal*** Another HUGE expense when demoing is the type of soil you have, where it gets moved, how it gets moved, and or disposed of and how much that expense ends up being if you have to haul and pay fees for disposal. Example: you plan to demo say 5 tons of soil, but it ends up being 10-15 tons because right beneath the surface you get 2" and 3" or greater of rock. It happens, and trust me, when you are on the contracting side (or DIY side) you had better put in an 'allowance' for demo for unseen sub surfaces or at least budget additional costs for unexpected soil removal. ***Software*** Want to DIY a backyard project similar or larger than the above project, pay a couple hundred dollars for a bidding software for landscaping, learn it and use it. I know, it takes time, but why wouldn't you want to spend $300 and the time to learn it to possibly save 1,0000.00's of dollars AND creating a realistic budget? Imagine getting into a DIY of 30k+ and realizing you need $10,000 or 20k more. Right. Keep up the great insight Bobby! I like how you are not afraid to say it how it is. I'd like to add, please repeat or animate major fails people do not consider. Example you mentioned was permitting. I would hammer that advice you gave on that fail alone a few times and highlight the crap out of it. So so sooooooo many people have no clue what setbacks and limitations on structural heights their local implementation agencies require. Including maybe giving a quick bullet of what the steps may be and on average how long it takes to pull the actual permit, the drawings required, fees etc. city county etc..

@julianne089 2 жыл бұрын
Imo the pergola is too small and oddly placed ie: one of the poles is right in front of one of the windows blocking the view from inside. And all and all everything seemed designed more for looks than function/ comfort. That’s my biggest downside here. I think good design does both and sacrifices neither... the other thing that kind of bothered me is that the style of the house didn’t match the style of the backyard. I’d have liked to see them tie in better, even though I know it’s tv show thing, but I hate for things to feel plopped into a space and that makes it feel alien rather than integrated...
@BobbyKDesigns
@BobbyKDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
@julianne089. That is one of the difficult things about a 4 post pergola along the back of the house. It's bound to block a window! With this style home, I think this vibe can be pulled off but softening it a bit would probably go a long way. Maybe a patch of lawn vs. all rock, some more planters(colorful pots), and some better furniture. Overall, pretty phenomenal what was done in 2 days though. I didn't like that they positioned the pergola in front of a window. They could have moved it over about 15 to 18 inches to avoid this. Your right walking on rock barefoot is not comfortable.

@MTR You can find yard crasher episodes on KZbin. I think you can buy them for two dollars each.

In de tuin hebben veel mensen de neiging om grijs te gebruiken omdat de neutraliteit ervan de perfecte achtergrond vormt voor een breed scala aan bloemen

In the garden, many people tend to use gray because its neutrality provides the perfect background for a wide variety of flowers.

They put a post right in front of a window!! What the heck. ??? These are the pros...???
@BobbyKDesigns
@BobbyKDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
@Jerry Keenan. That is a pretty big no no. It would have been nice if they attached to the house and then had 2 posts out towards the yard. Live and Learn I guess...Thank you for watching!

Bad placement of the pergola, a structure of adjustable size that it is blocking a window.... looks like a major goof....

I saw the excessive use of rocks and cut the video off. This is horrendous. Also Pergola right in front of the back window instead of far into the yard. Unnecessary water feature....wtf

I honestly think the new backyard design is ugly. I don’t like the large pebbles. I don’t like the table and bar or the slats. I would not be able to relax back there at all.

No problem. I love landscaping because there are so many directions a space can go. This backyard is not for everyone but I do know that there is a backyard out there for everyone.❤️

30k? That sounds cheap - maybe California is just more expensive.

@Sudo Nimm. California is definitely a bit more. Probably closer to $40K-$45K all in. Thank you for watching!

Ridiculous that you need a permit to do such simple stuff on your own property.

Everyone wants a handout. Truth, municipalities want to make sure homeowners aren’t building ugly things to bring down the value of the neighborhood.

very sad to see this ''modern'' trend in backyards , completely denatured, no birds,no butterflies no lizards nothing buts ants perhaps surviving on food bits dropped by the '''party goers'',they will be partying for a few hours a week they don't need an entire back yard for this , gives me little hope for the other animals we are supposed to be sharing this planet with.....please don't take this post down, people need to know...

@michael joncour I have no problem with you stating your opinion on this design style. I think what is great about this channel is we’re building a community together and everyone can have a voice in the comments. I love nature myself and although I do feel this backyard is an incredibly small postage stamp of this planet I can see where you’re coming from when it comes to some other properties. Thank you for the comment and I look forward to seeing you Comment on future videos.

@@BobbyKDesigns hi bobby thank you for your understanding reply, i watched this video after watching''american reacts to why australia's suburbs are so hot'', it was rather depressing seeing the new suburbs, small blocks, large houses and really no room for anything you could call a garden, i felt if i said nothing i could change nothing, probably flogging a dead horse but you gotta try, i think maybe too many people just wan't to sit on their butts and watch football etc
