Well, I finally got back to fixing the wheel bearing on the 763 bobcat this morning. Took 3 hours total, not bad. I created this video with the KZbin Video Editor ( / editor )

I have a 463 that needs seals and bearings replaced but I am struggling to get axle out, do you know what holds the axle in place to prevent coming off during operation? Will help me a lot, please! Thanks!
@larsonvalleyfarm2 жыл бұрын
There is a nut next to the sprocket inside the chain case. You also have to remove the outer hub before pulling the shaft in order to change the seal
@triplecranks95405 жыл бұрын
Heat axle tube and put outer race in freezer. Race will slip right in axle tube. Heat inner race and it slides right on axle shaft. Beating on roller bearings to seat a race is not a good idea. Easy peezy Japaneezy!

That seal kit has a seal saver that slides over the axel. The round thing is supposed to install the seal saver. Then you cut off the lip. So that seal isn’t going to “seal” that axel. Good idea on seating that bearing.

Bobcat charged me $170 for the parts for 1 axle. I found the parts cheaper at bearing supply, so next time it will be less than $75 an axle. Thats sounds like a lot of money to me.....

Wow...you had a much easier time than me with the front bearings on my 553. The inner nuts were so tight I had to cut the tip off a Chinese sacrificial wrench and use a 4 foot cheater bar . The retorque specs were like 8oo foot pounds and its Loctited.the previou owner of mine left it outside most of the time ....there was 1 inch water in the bottom of the chain case. Hoped you looked close at yours as freezing could be a problem
@larsonvalleyfarm7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, and yes the oil was clean with no water, thankfully. Sounds like your 553 was a chore
@stevenhardy28987 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah ,it was a royal lain in the arse. The cutoff wrench worked on one side but not the other. The wrench would flex so bad there was not enough swing room. I then tried a 1100 pound air wrench on a long extension (about 20) inches. It too flexed. I then bought an SK 3/4 inch wratchet set. I had me standing on a 4 foot cheeter bar and another guy lifting on a 3 foot cheeter and it finally broke loose.
@stevenhardy28987 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention ....to get the hubs off ,I used a harmonic wheel balancer remover ,which I had bought new and never used......about 40 years ago.

I question the three hrs, I did my front axle on a 773 and I would have liked to see how you drove the inside race in. I personally found that if you take the opposite side bolt out you get that little more room to get the chain wheel back on the axle. You are right however it being a one person job. I personally used a ratchet strap to keep the axle from pushing out. BTW that cup thing is a ware ring for the oil seal.

When looking at used skid loaders the best is to buy from an individual or at sale just to avoid the dealer inflation and to not make the mistake that I made and buy one that your working on more than its being used.

+larsonvalleyfarm Yeah sadly new stuff does break. When looking at the John Deere 5425 and any other 25 series pay extra attention to the engines. They where the first series to get John Deere's 5 cylinder engines. Reading on the forums it was luck of the draw if you got a good one or a bad one. The three and four cylinder John Deere engines are bullet proof.

@triplecranks95405 жыл бұрын
Barry Kratzer Getting race out of tube is easy with a slide hammer puller. Pops right out. Cheap tool and good to have. Getting inner race off is easiest by cutting it in half with a grinder. Grind it nearly through then smack with a hammer and chisel. It breaks in half. Races are very hard but also very brittle.
