A easy solution to your brake binding problem, when the vehicle is parked for a long period of time, leave the handbrake off, pop it in gear, first or reverse, depending on the direction of the vehicle if parked on a gradient, or chock the wheels, that will prevent the brakes from binding on.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
Yes, doing that at the moment.

hi bob and jenny we have a vw polo, its a known issue with the smaller vw`s with rear drum brakes, brake dust collects and when the vehicle has been standing after rain the problem occurs. we had to get the recovery co out who also couldnt release it by rocking the car, the wheel had to come off then the drum was tapped with a hammer which released it. there is no permanent answer other than to regularly take the wheel off, then the drum cover (2 screws) blow out the dust with an air line (wear a mask) and then a good clean with brake cleaner spray. a mechanic told me to adjust the shoes also but i never did this and it worked perfect for me. it lasts a few months before having to do it again but worth doing yourself if you would have to pay a mechanic every few months. i live in west derby, liverpool so dont mind giving you a hand if you like. hope this helps and good luck. btw thankyou for the videos, me and my wife watch them and find them really helpful and informative as we are saving up for a campervan/motorhome . take care, gary and bev

Looking forward to your Wales trip. Some sites on your list are new to me. Min-y-Don is a family site, but the playground is on a large field at one end of the park so fairly quiet. The on site facilities are first rate, and the location for motorhomes is excellent. The beach is 20 minutes walk away. The Caddy Cafe on the bottom of the hill leading into Harlech is a great place for coffee and snacks. The site is just over 1/2 kilometre to the train station, from where you can head down to Barmouth or up to the coast to Portmeirion and beyond, so little need to take the motorhome out on days trips. Enjoy!

You both inspired me to eventually buy my own motorhome. This is my first year of ownership so going to wing it a bit to be honest. Plan is for little mini trips then a big trip May to July-ish touring scotland and the Hebrides. Up the west coast, Islay, Oban then to Castlebay Barra, up through the Uists, Lewis and Harris back to Ullapool and return via Altnaharra. The confusing bit for me is knowing when to book the ferries and having to do so - I’d rather just potter around and turn up and sail whenever. Hopscotch ticket on calmac gives 30 days to use I guess. Anyway great to see what you’re planning over the next year, and thanks for all the great entertaining and useful content!

Re your last night or any night in N I consider Six Mile Water Caravan Park in Antrim . It’s 30 mins from the ferry at Larne, accessible and well catered for with good walks and restaurants. On the shore of Lough Neagh which is the largest inland water in British Isles. It’s strategically placed and as a motorhomer I would prefer to drive to the ferry from there as opposed to Carnfunnock.

Another very entertaining video. Well done to you both. Ironically we are both visiting Red Kite this year (never been before) and Eye Kettleby (been lots of times and brilliant for dogs and a nice bar for evening drinks. With EHICS, we were one of the rare visitors to France last July with a dog. The experience at Border Control was amazing. I was number 6 in the queue and I watched with horror as all before me failed to progress due to faulty EHIC's. They all presented their EHIC when requested and all five EHICS had errors in them - hence the refusal to board. It was Saturday and all of them lost their temper as they were given the same option of leaving the dog in England or get the vet to amend the errors. One of them had travelled from Scotland. Security had to remove some of them as they could see their entire holiday in France was now not happening. The errors I could overhear were, the vet failing to sign every page, the vet failing to stamp every page, amendments made without an initial(like you do with a cheque, and the vet not completing pages correctly. I was so relieved to be told that my EHIC was correct. My vet did assure me that he had done the training and he had already done many before mine. Enjoy your sites, the site bookings sound good.

The stuck handbrake issue is an old skool problem from back in the day, you’d think they’d have cured that by now, we used to leave the handbrake off and vehicle in gear or chock the wheels when the vehicle is sitting, If a vehicle has had its handbrake left on for a period of time and is stuck we would release the handbrake lever & either bounce the back of the vehicle or tap the drums to release it, my VW Polo Gti has noisy brakes when reversing, it emits a loud squeal, not what you expect from a new car so it’s going in to be looked at, all the best to you both and happy travels

Yes, it is strange these days that we still have drum brakes.

@@BobEarnshawMoHo small car and I’d guess some bright spark decided it didn’t need the stopping power of discs all round, we used to get it a lot on the forecourt back in the day if a car had been sitting around we’d bounce it up and down and sometimes get someone to very gently try and drive it whilst others bounced the back and usually they would free up but on the odd occasion the club hammer would come out

Thank you both for another great video. Wish we were as organised as you are. We're fairly new to motorhomes but have caravanned for many years only making the switch 2 years ago, ( bought it and promptly got locked down !!) We miss being able to get out and about without a car as I don't fancy towing one. We have tried several times to hire a car but have always been unsuccessful for a variety of reasons mainly as they wont deliver to sites. Have you ever hired a car ?? Perhaps there is a video that could help us. Just a thought. Once again thank you both. All the best. VANESSA & COLIN WELLS

We did used to hire cars when on site, probably a video in itself, but I got fed up with being messed about with by the car hire company. Late deliveries, extra charges, wrong cars, trips across a city to pick one up. Plus it takes two half days out of your time on site. That's one of the main reasons we went for a tow car.

We watched ALL of it! All sounds very exciting! Sounds like your rear brakes are rusting on and possibly ice helping too if cold enough? Possibly they need a good clean out? I would suggest leaving the Hand brake off when on site and leaving it in gear. Which ever way you are parked, I.E nose in towards a hedge, in 1st and vice versa. It's Romney Hythe Dymchurch Railway :-)

Yes, the car's just been picked up by the garage hopefully they'll sort it.

It was good to chat with you and meet Poppy and Tara whilst staying on Troutbeck,we are looking at Meathop too for this new year, after what happened, certainly won’t be staying on the service pitch site again. There is someone who vlogs called Andrew Ditton, he did a vlog about his dog Dougal, and taking him away post brexit, not sure if that will help at all, looking forward to watching this years travels.

Andrew Ditton? Never heard of him... 😁 Yes I saw Andrew's blog, how things have got so much more complicated and expensive for dog lovers.

Happy new year to you both & thankyou for all the video`s that you post. We always check to see if a new one is out. Although we live in Australia we enjoy watching video`s about travelling around the uk in a motorhome. One thing we have noticed is the fresh water set up in your motorhome, it appears that even when a water hose is connected to your m/home that a 12volt pump is still required to access the water inside the m/home. ( have I got this right ? ) In Australia when a fresh water hose is connected to the external connection then water is available via any of the taps inside the m/home. We do have a 12v water pump inside the m/home but this is only used when we need to access the potable water from our water tanks ( we have two 100 litre water tanks) My wife enjoys watching your dogs Tara & Poppy on your travels & we are surprised the number of places that allow dogs. There are a lot more restrictions in Australia. We used to travel with a dog but found that this limited us to the places we could either visit or camp e.g. Dogs not allowed in National parks not even for a day visit. Keep posting the video`s & stay safe. Best wishes for 2022

Our motorhome and most UK motorhomes have an inboard water pump in the water tank to operate the taps. The portable external pump is only used to fill the water tank from an external container like the Aquaroll. Poppy comes on all trips, we've not found a campsite that doesn't allow dogs.

@@BobEarnshawMoHo Hi Bob, thanks for your speedy reply and for the clarification on your water system. As we prefer to stay away from caravan parks as much as possible we tend to keep both of our water tanks full, but this can be a bit challenging sometimes when we travel through drought affected areas. There are times in remote regional areas where this a charge to fill tanks up. Warm regards, Graham

We cross to Ireland on the same ferry for Dog Shows on a regular basis. They do have a specific place you can sit with Poppy and you can take her on deck. If worried contact the ferry çompany. Ps. I am just like Jenny and am a terrible sailor but I wasn't too bad on this crossing. So fingers crossed. Guy.

Thanks, we've booked with P&O and I think they allow crated dogs in the VIP lounge.

We avoid sites with glamping pods or safari tents as their clientele are after a very different experience and have found on more than one occasion that the noise from the pods is not acceptable. However Eye Kettleby is not included as their pods are well away from the two caravan areas.

Getting more difficult to avoid sites with them. A different set of people we think...

I know it's very distressing to leave our dog in her crate in the car when on the ferry crossing. I use a very light calm tablet for her. Since you're leaving her in the motorhome would it maybe help if you could put a tape player in with her playing calming music to try to drown out the car alarms. I think if you check P&O like Stena offer small dog crates on the passenger deck but to be honest they're pretty small and the only ship kennels I'd use are on the Liverpool boat because you can sit with the dog all night if you wish but Jenny wouldn't like the Liverpool boat (8 hrs). Also would you mind if I make a suggestion, which you can of course totally ignore, but you might be better staying at Carnfunnock caravan park just outside Larne first and at the Curran one for your early morning ... the Curran one is nice but it's literally 800 yards from the ferry terminal and it doesn't have any outlook. The upside for Curran is there's a good large Alde and petrol station not far (maybe half a mile or so) just on the way to the P&O terminal. I live fifteen mins away from Larne .. there's not much goes on in Larne. You will LOVE Ballyness it's the number 1 site in Northern Ireland.

Thanks for the information. I think Poppy will be OK in the motorhome. But, that is a good tip about leaving some music on.

Now that there are subtitles across the bottom centre of the screen, if you put pop up maps or info there too, they can't been seen. The subtitles show over the top of them... Be fine if you move any pop ups to the side, up or down.... Great videos otherwise, thank you.

Really looking forward to your adventures in 2022. When your at the shows, if you could cover motoring as a disabled person that would be great. We are particularly interested in how to carry a mobility scooter externally. Many thanks.

Great vlog, and lots to look forward to. 👍 If you don’t mind me saying so, when visiting NI, i think you should stop at Carnfunnock country park first. The north coast road should not be missed. I just hope you get good weather for the trip. Second day continue traveling up the coast road on your way to Ballyness. Towards the end of your trip you’re traveling near to Newtownards and there is Mount Stewart. A stunning country house and gardens. As you are with the national trust it would be silly not to take advantage of it. Poppy will love the walks. Gardens are amazing. Hope you enjoy all your planned trips. Here’s to 2022 🍻🥂👍
