The modular test: stop watching, listen to music and ask yourself: would it be possible to reach same sound with nice prepatched analog machines ? 😉 Of course there is the intellectual challenge and pleasure to control from scratch sounds + to occupy yourself with the “what next module should it get ?” 🤔 Hopefully we are all different!
@SorchaSublime3 жыл бұрын
of course i could make the sounds in a lot of cases, but the depth of sound design is only one aspect of the appeal of eurorack. the many options for control and modulation make working within modular to create music a truly unique paradigm.

Hey Bo. My tip: you can find tools which are basically small magnets on telescoping shafts at auto parts stores. Like an old radio antenna w a magnet on the end of it. I keep one next to my big case (only use when it's powered down). Tilt the case towards a corner (maybe jiggle it around if needed), remove a single module, problem solved :)

Holy smokin' silicon! That's one fine-looking system, Bo. Cannot wait to see some future patch ideas, sound demos, and modifications. I also use Modular Grid for planning the layout and subsequent changes. It's indispensable. I don't know if I will ever consider my Eurorack synth to be "DONE!!" as one of the principal reasons to build a modular synthesizer is having the ability to reconfigure it. Besides, I've got some empty space in it that begs to be filled with modules, perhaps ones that don't even exist yet.

Looks like chaos. If you're just getting started, I'll expect a regret video within a couple of months. Buying so much gear, all at once, will definitely reveal shortcomings in your module selection. It's impossible to build such a large system all at once and 100% correctly without ever patching before. For those contemplating such a move, take it slow and build your system over time based on your needs, not on Modulargrid. You'll save a small fortune. I expect this system would cost close to $25K at retail and a lot of it looks like slop - i.e. buying all modules in a series without looking at better alternatives. Congrats on the cool looking system, but pease don't share your misinformation with other people looking for good advice. Few people could afford such a system, nor do they need something so large and complex to be creative. Start with the basics.

Feel free to watch my ”should you get into eurorack video”. I think you might find some takes refreshing. This video is about my absurd build, and I don’t make particular recommendations in it. It is never done, Bo. You add stuff, you take away stuff, you move stuff around, you buy another case and slowly fill it up. Then you buy another or maybe sell one and then buy a bigger one (or smaller for traveling). Then different cases get redesigned and made to fit different ideas. One becomes your effects processing case, another takes on a West Coast flare, another is for sampling and digital synthesis tools, or maybe stuff is all mixed around and it works best for you for a while that way. It is always in motion.

Interested to see how your Black Hole DSP’s behave with the Meanwell power supplies BoBeats. I’ve been running my system on 4MS power and recently wired in Meanwell supplies and noticed Black Hole DSP lost all stereo spread to the effects. It collapses the stereo field completely. Swap back to 4MS and it the DSP stereo comes back to life. Took me weeks to work out why my patches suddenly seemed so flat and lifeless.

This just looks like the definition of the giddy child like abandon of having just got into modular. I’ve designed racks like this before too where it’s just all the modules that have stood out in other cases and seen in videos based on what you think you need. Overall seems to fit what you want to do with it well but I’m sure if there was more direction and focus in the design you could have accomplished the same goal within less than 25% of the space/price/power saving the rest for other things or whatever, but we all know theirs fun in excess with modular haha. Enjoy!
@BoBeats3 жыл бұрын
you are completely right in that my setup isn’t cost effective. its partly because I dont view it like ”one setup” and more a library of modules. And its indeed also just a passion thing.
