Tai Chi 10 Form (or 8 Form) with English titles inserted between postures; edited version of video copied from www.taiji.de. The performer is Gao Jiamin. According to Kungfu Magazine (July 2000 issue) she was born in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, China June 26, 1966. At the time of the article she had "won 32 gold medals, a record that has never been achieved by any other competitor". She is (or was) a chief instructor at "US Wushu Center" in Portland, OR. The background music is "Willow in the Spring Breeze" from "Master of Traditional Chinese Music: Collection of Liu Beimaos Famous Pieces." The MP3 can be purchased from Amazon at www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000....

Pity this video is not in high definition. But, the movements are clearly and beautifully performed. This is a a very simple and elegant Yang form for beginners to learn. One can even self teach from the video. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. Whether to call something "right" or "left" can be confusing. I have labeled the moves "right" and "left" from from the perspective of the performer (Ms. Gao Jiamin), not from the perspective of the observer, and with reference to the motion that is most significant to the form. Thus, when she is "standing right," she is standing on her right leg; when she is "kicking right" she is kicking with her right leg.

that woman is TRULY grace incarnet, im absolutly amazed and inspired at the same time, "Sifu jiamin, thank you very much for this lesson. i hope one day to be just as fluid and just as precise in my own practise".

I have been watching the video with my granddaughter for over 2 yrs. My granddaughter loves and does it with her all the time. Now she doesn't fall while standing on one leg. Lol We both don't . and definitely getting better . She doesn't want to do it with anyone else.

I paid a visit to the "US Wushu Center" in Portland, OR last year and she is still the lead Taijiquan instructor there. She has two children now and spends every minute she can with them. Incredible skills!

Thanks. I just started to learn this form from a different video. This helps. I began tai chi a year ago, doing an even shorter form (open,grasp the bird's tail, single whip,close) every day since. Now I am ready to expand into new moves.

She's good. Strong and flexible. She really spreads out the movements. I can't get my heel kick that high. Trying to do some stretching so I eventually can. Thanks for posting.

My class is doing this in e assembly for Chinese New Year, but, we are TOTALLY NOT as graceful as her. I'm one of the students in the front row, and I'm in the middle, too. My whole class can't kick as high as her, so we just lift our foot for a while, then put it down. Our supplied teacher watched us once, but she didn't realize the fake kick. So I suppose we'll be alright.😋

Don't worry about high heel kicks. These are professional athletes/wushu teachers. They train from very young when they are flexible and do a lot of stretching. So, just kick from Low to Mid-section, that will be good enough. Don't be discouraged because you can't kick as high as the teacher/Ms Gao. Keep practising.

She is very elegant. Though this video is quite old and not in high definition, I like her performance. You can with constant practice. As they say, practice makes perfect. The Japanese have a concept: KAIZEN. Every day you get better with practice.

Marvelous. I am practicing 8 form Taichi regularly since last 6:months. I would like to know that is 8 from Taichi as fine as 24 forms or as equally effective as 24 forms as far as health and combat benefits are concerned ?

Always moving toward a longer form is better! And the longer forms have new moves and ways of creating fluidity and suppleness of muscles.

ten form is excellent if your exercise space is limited or you are short on time. As it employs the principles and has the Grasp the Sparrows Tail form, it is worth doing. You will find learning the 24 form more of a challenge and well worth the effort.

This particular Tai Chi form is for those working for the first 'dan' in China's martial arts classification. It differs from the other more advanced forms in that you need a space of not more than six feet to perform it, starting and ending at the same spot. Ignore the English translation of the names for the movements. They are confusing to non-Chinese.

10 form? 24 is already Basic, why make it even smaller?
@lailanityler2380

The Occasional HaHa Because sometimes people just need to start with little bits and work their way up? Perhaps on occasion they simply don’t have time to devote to the entire 24 form? Instead opting for a little “bite-sized” one to get their practice in for the day? There are a couple different reasons.
