It is surely significant that when he died in 1805 the obituarists stresses the fact that ‘in earlier days he was an excellent cellist who produced a bewitching effect by the incomparable tone expressive melodiousness of this instrument.’ A french writer echoed this german tribute, describing Boccherini as ‘a marvellous cellist who captivated us above all by the incomparable sonority and intense exppressiveness of his playing.’ These two nations had different attitudes to Boccherini as a composer but they were thus far unanimous.

Wonderful. I'm more fond of the cello than of the violin. So keep these cello concertos coming.

Very beautiful the last movement of the third concerto with the pseudo Vivaldi seasons mood.

It has an interesting backstory worth looking up. It is, in fact, unfinished -- and probably for a good reason.

@@TheConfusername But it is very fresh and symbolic. The tree is in spring, the background is in summer and the field on the right side is in autumn. It shows the circle of life and shows that the young couple is still in spring. And it is a little bit strange, so colorful but like a false color photography. It is like Boccherini's music!
