PLEASE watch the full video - ESPECIALLY the end before making any assumptions. If you want to talk about Chainsaw Man I'll give my brief thoughts below, but I'll make a video on it eventually. First: I didn't say Chainsaw man is bad (and even if I did, it's my opinion?) Next: no one said creativity means going full on changing art styles or voice acting and whatnot like Bocchi - you guys take everything to the extreme... Example, AOT has ODM scenes that weren't in the manga. These are choices that were made, and as I showed in the interview, the production of CSM was done through a filtered view, a much stricter direction, that results in less potential choices. If your director is saying that to the public - do you think you'd try to do something other than what he wanted? There was POTENTIAL, that was probably stunted because of a strict direction. You'll never know the full potential. This is just something the director had a vision for. Whether his vision is good or bad is another story, but inherently, I think giving less freedom to people in a presumed to be creative field, is bad.
@angelamengualcortinas36142 жыл бұрын
AOT season 1 is kinda not a good comparison? Like, i really don't know about the details of the production in that show, but specially season 1 seems like a child of its director, Tetsuro Araki, though i could be wrong of course. You put the Odeon gear scenes as examples of creativity, but one could easily argue that Aki's morning routine in CSM (which is not in the manga either) is the same. I think a better example of what you're trying to say is Kaguya-sama.
@christopher42272 жыл бұрын
Bruh you literally take shots at chainsawman because ht does not do the-same thing bocchi the rock does Like every time you praise bocchi you just say chainsaw man is not doing the same thing and knock it down for it being a DIFFERENT FORM OF MEDIA And your point is because the direction is strict its not reaching its full potential is just wrong on 2 bases 1 in the recent episode yen bm(freelance animator) literally said he was giving rights to alter storyboards for his cut 2 just because something is strict does not mean bad if every big name animator was doing there thing alot of creative intent would be lost. Your video is like comparing water and soda its like saying soda is better than water because soda is sweeter and looks better when the only thing they have in common is the fact that they are both liquid and they are both drank

Thanks to cover the CGI/Rotoscopic part. I was truly annoyed when some people keeps throwing "the live scenes were CGI" when it was clearly rotoscopic (rotoscopic over 3D animated sequences is still rotoscopic). That drives me nuts. At, let's be real here, not all CGI is bad. I just feel like people nowadays hate CGI just for the sake of it (or maybe they thought it was cool, IDK). But, for me, CGI is just a tool that can help improve the quality if it's done right. Just because bad CGIs are dominant in anime doesn't mean the CGI itself is bad. People should stop generalizing somehow.
@RedRocket40002 жыл бұрын
He probably wrong on the trace over as it was probably Rotoscope as Disney used the word. Original Rotoscope and still trademarked is tracing over a live action film and it looks bad. Disney filmed actors live action and had the animators watch the film as they drew fresh and you get Academy award level animation. Here they probably used live action to make CGI base animation but then drew over that. Basically the CGI does the first step of drawing block man style the animation you can't normally trace over the CGI as you just get something that looks CGI. It seams in industry normally when they say Rotoscope but as Disney used the world. I even seen the movie short where Disney uses the word Rotoscope while for comedy they have two animators attempt to draw the live actors acting. They of course filmed instead and drew from that. Note in some cases the live actors created the movement of the character in example the Mad Hatter live actor known for improve work hit it out of the part with how he thought the Mad Hatter would be and Disney just used it. In both the traditional and CGI motion capture they paying for live action plus animation thus big dollars cost and little top CGI not improved by hand to make the final.

Great video. Total agreement. I love both. The realism of chainsawman painted a tragic character, made him relatable with simple dreams, and OP ability and tells a story that truly horrifies and gives you the feels. Bocchi is so relatable; OP talent developed from passion and hard work, and the struggle to connect, be seen, perform in order to fulfil her dreams. I love how both demonstrate, in different ways, how characters find motivation to perform at their best. In Bocchi, it is internal crisis, be it fear of failure, that brings out her passion to step out of her anxiety and then perform at her best. In CSM, denji goes from dispassionate, don’t care, to full on fired up when power offers him to feel her breasts if he helps save her cat. Bocchi has the intrinsic motivation to drive herself, and finds something within herself when needed. For denji, he has the same drive, but requires extrinsic source of motivation to drive himself relentlessly towards his seemingly trivial goal, (ie feeling breaths), irrespective of how impossible the actual task needs to complete may be, or how unrealistic his chances of succeeding. Denji has zero self-doubt whatsoever; the complete opposite of Bocchi. Yet, Bocchi’s challenge is to find her power to overcome anxiety to bring out her best. Denji needs the promise of reward to inspire him out of his apathy, and stimulate the power within him.

This anime is just a must watch just because Cloverworks is one of the studio that mostly consistent with their animation. And boy ohh boy I didn't regret a single thing. I was sad earlier that nobody react to this anime, the english reaction is so, so little that I thought no one watching this. Until I realize that BTR is very popular in Japan that it gets a lot of fanarts and meme that made more people to start watching it.

I was initially hesitant due to the amount of people comparing themselves to Bocchi (so much so that it has become a meme), but I was pleasantly surprised with the great music and character development. Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The mixed media approach is creative and fascinating to see as well, really solid overall.

I think Bocchi and CSM are two sides of the same coin. CSM's direction and animation seems like a celebration of everything that has brought the medium to become respected all throughout the world, so it's constrained to what we know about animation. Bocchi is the other side, truly exploring how free-form animation can be, I think it's multi-medium approach to emphasize gags will be something that inspires directors to try something new in the future.

if they keep this style in the future scenes. The disconnect between the directing choices and the scene 😂 Denji will be like "can I bring her ass back" and then there will be some slow "cinematic" dolly zoom or whatever into some city background with faint music in the background... What made me fall in love with this anime was the love to details, using everything that media has to offer to convey the feel of the moment. Was easy 10/10....BUT it became 11/10 after Sick Hack performance. They were very subtle in hinting that Hiroi was amazing and as someone who is gonna be her roll model, I felt it building up. And then it struck, music, animation, facial expression in all that chaos. They managed to pull it off, every aspect of the anime was now near perfection.

I wonder if the "let the animators and other staff members do whatever they want" approach was not only a creative choice but also something to put less pressure on the director vs wonder egg - after a couple of messy productions under their belt, they may have more experience now to know what their limits are. I'm sure the actual business guys are still evil but still

I think the reason it's so tempting to make this comparison is because of the directoral aproach The CSM director was a hardass that was INSISTANT on making the anime as movie like as possible even if it meant sacrificing some of the freedom animation gives you while the Bocchi director encouraged the team to just embrace that creative freedom and just go ballistic with it. CSM tried to live up to the manga and Bocchi set out to give us MORE Bocchi than even the manga did. Obviously none of these things are bad for CSM given the show's nature and premise and hey it was definitely a damn good anime. But Bocchi took risks, went all out and delivered something unique in one of the most competitive seasons too. I want to emphasise this, this is not a failure story for CSM it's a sucess story for Bocchi Because Chainsaw Man still Rocks

I'm so glad I got recommended this video. I just finished Bocchi and it is one of my favorite anime of 2022, which is saying a lot since. Season 3s of two of my favorites of all time, Mob Psycho 100 and Love is War came out as well. The funny thing about how Bocchi's direction contracts CSM is that we are what the perfect balance between creativity and series director's vision in episode 4. Tatsuya Yoshihara was so legendary that he was able to get as crazy as possible, leading to an extended fight with the lich devil that ended up being the best of the series. And there was that anime original morning routine scene as well. I wouldn't want it to take too much from Bocchi's book, but the principal of animator creativity should be highlighted season 2 onward. Bocchi takes pride in that principal and has become goated for it

Bocchi the Rock reminds me so much of cartoons I used to watch back then like Chowder and The Amazing World of Gumball because of those stop motions, real life shots and randomness like the dam appearing as a commercial break because of Bocchi vomiting lol
@cheekibreeki36072 жыл бұрын
Honestly Chainsaw man is already such a strange show from the source material that the strict making is a good balance. Likewise a slice of life is the best place to incorporate weird ideas to keep it fresh. Not saying that they can't work the other way around, Bocchi definitely has good source material and Chainsaw man could possibly be even better with well made creativity. But to be fair it's really hard to get creativity right and requires a really talented staff. Doing things by the book is usually the safer option. And honestly it isn't like chainsaw man doesn't have any creativity since for example the endings for each episode are a blast to watch with each having a unique style in their music video.
@BoobaMilkTea2 жыл бұрын
I'll address these points in my Chainsaw Man video, but see how I never talked about Bocchis op or ed? I don't really think the EDs or OPs are a solid argument for the actual anime. Btw Bocchi the Rock CG staff worked on Chainsaw Man as well... Well just the OP lol (not the actual show 🤣)

Creativity and passion overpowers following a set of guidelines that will likely guarantee success but may never reach higher than those who take the risk of being more creative in their approaches like bocchi. Their is a world where bocchi is not as successful as chainsaw man because of the risks taken and in fact just becomes another slice of life anime. But that's not what we got. We received a finely executed series that has paid excellent attention to detail, created great music, some insane voice acting and above all really brought out the characters and theme of the story.
