Building a platform for an Air Conditioning Unit

Today I wanted to take you out on a job site. But, I do HVAC!! What does that have anything to do with woodworking? Watch this video and take a look.

Do you have to have the large plastic pads? I have a similiar deck where the decking boards go all the way across? Can a condenser sit on wood or is metal to wood no good? Nice job!

You can do that. I personally like the look of the pads but, you can set a unit directly on wood.

Was about to pour a concrete pad for my heat pump, but then thought why not just make a little deck since I have lots of salvaged pt lumber. The plastic pads are like $80-150+ so glad I can sit it on its riser legs on the wood🤙

I am having a new AC installed including the inside unit. They said included would be "redecking the platform with a new plywood top" Does that mean a new 'box' that the inside unit will sit on?

How we do this on epdm flat roof

You can just set the pad and feet on the flat roof. No decking needed.

You could put some of the walkway material under the pad to offer more protection

Ya I'm not sure the point of the pads?? Why not just bolt directly to the wood???

Gives it some elevation from snow building up right against the unit at the bottom. For the part of the country I am in.
