Samaneri Jayasāra - Wisdom of the Masters

Samaneri Jayasāra - Wisdom of the Masters

Күн бұрын

Bodhidharma is considered the founder of Zen Buddhism in China and regarded as its first Chinese patriarch. He brought the Buddha's teachings to China from India in 520 AD. While much of his biography may be the stuff of legend and his historicity is still in question, numerous early records speak of him (or someone by the name of Bodhidharma) as a wise and compassionate monk. Whether or not he was ever a living person, the legend of Bodhidharma has made him as real in the Zen tradition as anyone else.

Dear Listener, this recording has some copyrighted music in the video so YT plays ADS to collect revenue for the record company. I have no control over the ads that appear as it is all KZbin placing ads for the music companies as I used copyrighted material in this old recording. My channel is not monetized so I make no money from them or the ads that appear. I try not to use copyrighted music anymore. If you purchase a KZbin premium subscription you can avoid ads. The responsibility is all on your end.

I believe the meaning is to not become stuck in one mindset..one way..one view or opinion, one version of what your life will be, values or lack there of, disconnect camouflaged by materialism, living according to what path the ego steers one towards. The ego..all of this fluff that many lives consist of arise from the ego and mask the disconnect, emptiness, lack of purpose, of gratitude and awe in all the wonder, beauty, peace, growth, spiritual awakening…accumulating karma on that hamster wheel. Letting go has been one of the most profound transformations I have gone through. love and light to you all!!

Soo much truth in each and every word that was spoken. Real meaning of spirituality is the realisation of the fact that you are the ultimate reality illumining every thing in this universe. You are the consciousness, the awareness that is the ultimate reality.

The last line was profound. I see many zen practitioners who shave their head thinking they detached themselves from worldly possessions or perhaps they do it to feel the need to represent the image of what it means to be a Buddhist. Whatever it may be, they have attached their mind to a false idea and thus their mind is not liberated. The Buddha is the mind; the awakened mind. It exist within you as well as other sentient beings whether they are awake or not. On the contrary, do not kill the Buddha if you see him walking down the street as some zen koan suggests. That zen koan is both correct and incorrect.

Anyone who gives up the transcendent for the mundane is immortal or a mortal? It's probably the latter but it could be finding the transcendent in the mundane. Captions say immortal

A mortal. Yeah, ultimately they're not different.. transcendent/Mundane, but I'm not sure he's referring to that here. More the abandonment of the realization of true nature for some desire or worldly goal. Putting something else above it.

@@michaelmcclure3383 It stood out because I had a long discussion yesterday with a person who doesn't understand the transcendent or the true nature of being. Life is doing he said. Mundane. He thinks I am a bit lost and so unattached to reality. Of course I am unattached but reality is what is. Much gratitude 🌸

@@ghuyakalika ah yes. It's hard for people to understand your love of truth if they dont have it themselves. Even so, we are probably best not dividing life into ignorant and wise people. See the same in all.

@@ghuyakalika I guess there is an artful way to open a conversation about this stuff, testing their openness and not proceeding if it's not there. Or only to the point of their openness. Bit like flirting Haha Another thing is one could be open to communication that isn't only through words and concepts, since truth eludes all description. Your presence communicates so much more and is beyond agreement and disagreement. Also, It's a big relief to realize that someone need not respect you for your understanding. How can they respect it if they dont already understand themselves?. So it's pointless to be invested in that. That's my hard won experience anyway haha
