I was there 33 years ago .It was less developed .We stayed in Gumbet which was very simple and undeveloped and totally charming .I visited Gumbet a few years ago and was shocked at the noise and over the top tourism .Bodrum has always kept its charm but is definitely now a much more upmarket resort .

The inexpensive restaurants by the beach are run by the Belediye - municipality - and can also be found in the Old City of Istanbul. Sometimes it’s just a tea garden, sometimes a full restaurant. Everybody is welcome there, foreigners too 😊

Yes, restaurants like these are in every city in Turkey 🙂

@@OlgaProGoingPlaces I lived in Istanbul for 9 years, and sometimes I think foreigners are hesitant to enter the belediye places, as they see mostly Turkish families there (and in Istanbul, many covered women) but they have really nice food at normal Turkish prices, as you said!

For Turkish people and foreigners earning Turkish lira the economy is a disaster. I left Istanbul in 2019, but I know that a full time English teacher at a language school now earns 220 Euro/USD a MONTH! I used to earn 2000 Euro back in 2000

The entrance and the conditions of the public beach was unbelievably bad. It is embarrassing that Turkish people are treated this way in their own country. I think that hotel should be demolished and beach should be given completely to public. Corruption in this kind of touristic places is rampant. They probably rented the land from the city for 50 years for cheap after bribing come city officials.

The seaside street along the marina is a one-way street from city center to Bardakci beach, so that's why taxi driver couldn't use that street to bring you back. But he could have dropped you off at a closer location to the castle.

After being heavily damaged by an earthquake the Knights of St. John used many of the stones of the ancient wonder of the world the Mausoleum in building the castle. If you look closely there are stones with carvings and images from the Mausoleum inside the walls and buildings of the castle.

Hi Olga,i am an avid follower of your most interesting and informative videos.What I appreciate most is the fact that you mention prices /costs of goods and services,which in turn helps future Tourists or relocators/retirees as far as affordability is concerned.Because Antalya and or Alanya have been on my radar for a little while. If it’s not too much trouble, I would appreciate it if you could find out and advise me of the current costs of employing an individual to look after someone on a full time basis,that has perhaps developed Alzheimers or another disease and can no longer look after themselves and hence this requirement becomes necessary. Needless to say that not everyone that relocates or retires in a new country has a partner and the dilemma starts when you get hit with health issues and you may not have anyone to look after you. What do you do then ???
@OlgaProGoingPlaces2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you! Unfortunately I can’t find out about employing. I would recommend trying to ask at Facebook expat groups, that’s where I find information usually.
@shoiku47342 жыл бұрын
Ah Ha! You finally got hit with a "Service charge"!! I mentioned in your previous video that a few Istanbul restaurants do that at different amounts. I got hit with this "service fee" 4 times so far. One of them defended it by saying they give the money to their employees & that it's normal to charge service fee for "fine dining". It's just rubbish to get more money for poor quality food & nothing-service. The "service fee" they charge can buy at least a supermarket food or drink. 10% of your total bill, 16.40 lira, 30 lira of the bill. It's whatever they like to charge. And food reviews on Google never mention the service charges. So I give negative reviews to such restaurants so that people are aware when they read the Google reviews.//For the beaches, there is a Turkish news report that the beaches are supposed to be free & open to everyone but these companies charge money & block up the area (which is not allowed). But there is nothing stopping these hotels & companies from hogging the beaches for themselves.///Wow, 533.50 lira?!! I haven't spent that much at a restaurant in Istanbul for 2 persons. Anything above 200 is already expensive by Turkish standards.
