It's February and there is literally ice and light snow on my porch. So, why am I mentioning Cooling of Body Armor? Well, because half my old unit (along with thousands of others) are still deployed overseas in hot areas of this pretty blue planet.
We are also just a couple months from running courses in Texas and Florida, where I'm going to be sweat my balls off on the hot flat range for days on end. So, "cooling" is very important to me... Not just Plate Carriers, but also gun belts.
So, we hunted around and found three companies that offer ways to cool your kit. All their products worked.
First, is Qore Performance; whom we have already reviewed their Ice Plates (they're AWESOME).
Second, is a product called I.C.E.™ by “BODY ARMOR VENT”™️ - The mandatory “cooling” accessory for all body armor. (but you DON'T freeze these)
The President & CEO, John Murphy, gave us a promo code: JFM20
The third is Bluhalo: (The Inflatable version)
The links to buy it are www.bluhaloshop.com and www.amazon.com/dp/B08KSF2ZLR/...
There is a 15% off code for the amazon link only: 15bluhalo
So, if you are a "Body Armor Wearing Warrior" or just a guy needing to cool his kit, these are some great options for you. Please give them a try.
Thanks for watching, TR.

Agreed 100%. Sucks the energy in no time flat. The flip side it is bad too. Get a plate down below 20 degrees or lower and they will pull the heat from your core faster than the body can replace it. Padding is your only friend then.

I'm a big guy, 6'5, 250lbs and I run a sub-normal body temp (96.5°) which means that, as the temperature drops, I'm getting comfortable about the time everyone else is grabbing sweatshirts and jackets. It also means that, as the temp rises, I'm sucking wind when everyone else is finally warm enough. So... Having something to keep the air flowing under my tac vest/carrier is godsend. Anything at all that helps even a little is big to us "polar bear" types.

Theres a product called “cool shirt” its a shirt with tubing sewed into it, its used mostly by nascar and racers. They even have an icepack pump combo that plugs into it. But i was thinking a hand pump with a heat sink might work too.

There's a full body suit like that as well, with an external pumping unit you wear on your belt, eod techs use it in those big bomb suits, ive seen russian versions as well being used by russian sapper crews in syria.

I do Security and those Qore Ice plates saved my butt this past summer when i was working in 115 degree heat. Slipped it into my soft armor carrier and it felt as good as sitting in a fridge on a hot day for at least 5 or 6 hours of my shift.. I will never go back to suffering hot days without having mine.

Thermocouple driven pump: the hotter it is under your gear, the faster the pump drives the coolant to the exterior panel for venting heat. Hey, it'll only add a dozen more pounds to the load, and of course, the antifreeze is toxic when the armor is penetrated, but what's a few development wrinkles to the technocrats? ;-)

Hey Karl, question for you. I live up in Montana and we're currently experiencing -15°F. Have a rifle that has always been very reliable. I took it out for the first time in this kind of weather and I continuously had light primer strikes with failure to fire. Any advice on cold weather guns?
@TacticalRifleman
@TacticalRifleman 3 жыл бұрын
Changes to a lighter oil, like Rem Oil. THe gun needs to be Clean, but well lubricated with a fluid that doesn't gum up when cold.
@The_SmorgMan
@The_SmorgMan 3 жыл бұрын
I’ll second what Karl wrote. Perhaps you already know/do this, but check your firing pin channel. I’ve discovered the hard way (and not in nice circumstances) that occasionally you need to clean that firing pin channel out. It can get gummed up from carbon and solvent, and the cold weather slows the firing pin enough to cause light primer strikes.
