Some surprising results. Some guys looked pretty fat or skinny yet had higher/lower fat percentages than others that looked fatter/skinnier. Based on these results, I don't see much of a reason to measure bf percentage. Just take progress pics and who cares what the number is.
@TheBcoolGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That's a lot to do with how much muscle mass you have too. Thicker muscles will show better through fat than thinner ones, and of course, not all lean mass is muscle mass. This is why there is a difference, plus what Mike said in the video about fat storage.
@rbarreira22 жыл бұрын
I had the exact same reaction: the only thing this video tells me is that either these results are inaccurate, or if they're accurate then body fat percentage says very little about looks.
@darioinfini2 жыл бұрын
@@rbarreira2 Same. The results were really surprising. And based on the last bit about where your body wants to store that last bit of fat, I might never see abs. I will keep working towards them but I'll understand that if I don't see them, or see them much, it's not for lack of trying, cos I'm busting my ass over here.

Dexa scan is not as inaccurate as the man says it is. It's recommended by so many medical institutions and doctors around the entire globe. My belief is that he is biased because his business is the direct competitor of Dexa scan. But it's alright. His business is still very great because he offers a lot of insight and tips for people to use.

Sorry, hydrostatic is not the most accurate any more, hasnt been for more than 15 years. You cannot, it is impossible to determine the amount of gas in the intestines, and therefore you have built in variability. I don't know where you get that information about DEXA scans, but they are, indeed the most accurate. The guy is a salesman, what can you say? And the results for the participants speak for themselves. Take a look at the people, you can tell how much fat they are holding.

+YouDontKnowMe Exactly!! he said that pinch test and DEXA CAN be 5-10% off. So they COULD be .5-.6% off but they COULD also be 15% off. It's proven over a number of studies that pinch tests yield the same results within a percent of hydro and other methods. He makes tons of money charging people for this crap, when you can buy a caliper for 2$ and get the same info
@youdontknowme23258 жыл бұрын
Logan Deak He is skewing results to his favor. Any used car salesman will lie to you to upsell. The pinch test results depend on the skill of clinician... e.g. their experience. In the video, many of the subjects results were VISUALLY incorrect. Eyeballing them would have given better results.

+M Bos Hydrostatic weighing isn't 100% accurate. It is more accurate than most other methods but can still be off by 5 percentage points (give or take, obviously this can differ from person to person and depending on the setup they are using and who is doing the weighing). Obviously the guy in the video isn't going to tell you that because he's trying to sell a service. I doubt that guy is actually 9%.

@eldsprutandedrake8 жыл бұрын
Find it hard to believe that a DEXA is so bad, I was thought at my university that it's one of the most accurate techniques only a couple of months ago, but I will try to find these studies to read more about it! Also DEXA is pretty good in the sense that you can not only get fat percentage, you also get bone mineral content (weight of your skeleton), actual muscle mass i.e. separate from other organs. Also you can see where on your skeleton you might have weak points, where you store the most fat in your body, you can get the muscle mass of e.g. your right leg compared to your left and so on. There are a bunch of stuff you can monitor, most of it is useless in most situations, but fun to know :P But whatever, as with all ways of measuring body composition you really need to be aware of recent food intake, hydration, gas in intestines etc, there really is no method that fully accounts for all of that. There are flaws with every method, but as long as you are aware of what impacts the test results you can use most of them to track progress over time, which is the interesting thing I think. Just knowing your body composition at a single point in time is pretty interesting but not really useful ^^
@arafelify8 жыл бұрын
+eldsprutandedrake DEXA is definitely more accurate - that guy's talk was 100% sales pitch, if he was offering mobile DEXA scans then DEXA would be the most accurate

It would be extremely helpful to also know what BF% the machine says you are before blowing out all your air. This way you at least have a range to see how much air is truly a factor in this. A range the starts with you at 40% with full lungs and then goes down to 16% after blowing out air gives me much less confidence in the results than a range that started at 19% with full lungs and goes down to 16% after. I'm sure some people are better at blowing out every last bit of air than others.
@darioinfini2 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure but it kinda sounded like the machine weighed your body when it lands on the bottom after you blow out all your air. Most people with lungs full of air will float so presumably there's no weight measured at all. So it's more like 100% fat (because it assumes you're floating on the surface because you're a blob) vs what it weighs you at when you sink to the bottom minus your fat content which is buoying you up. Which is why you have to blow out as much air as possible so as not to confuse the results with false buoyancy.

Brilliant. This should go viral. It likely wont, because, to quote Jack Nicholson..."Truth....you cant handle the truth";-). Ive been a fitness coach for over 40 years, so Im talking from experience. Callipers can be as good as the person using them. The important thing for most, is to measure progress, so even if it is 10% inaccurate (18 % to 16.2%), it will still show accurate net gains or losses. Also, calipers can show you the "local" results, which is important for those with very disproportionate accumulation (usually female). Its also worth mentioning that women generally carry 5% more than men for the equivalent standard. If they drop below 12%, it interferes with their hormonal balance. Dont want children, stay below 10% ;-)

+kellzpalm +MrMoochh Mr. Thrall and the rest of the members operate at a high body fat percentage as it is important for them to have regulatory harmony levels as they compete in very high intensity/power activities aka strong man lifts. For their weights, if you research healthy body fat percentages for optimal strength adaptations, you will see that their body fat percentage to body weight ratios are very, VERY optimal for their particular competing events. Also hydrostatic weighing is the most efficient and a accurate measurement for weighing IF the human operator conducts the test in the absolute recommended way of performing it. Human error is always a factor.

I think that bf is not correct. For example, in Andy's case (6 ft 1'', 307 lbs adn a 24,3 bf%) If he had that bf%, he weighs 232 lbs of fat free mass and that is too high for a 6 ft 1'' person. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a little bit higher and he seems to have much more muscle than Andy and his weigh was like 240 (¿?). It's just an opinion. Maybe is more correct the use of a caliper.

I did okay but the numbers are too close within the range of Error for the test. Jon - 14.4% Gio - 16.8% Jeana - 37.6% Ashling - 29.2% Rachel - 34.8% Brandy - 14.8% Matt - 23.4% Sean - 29.4% Andrew - 24.4% Jason - 18.8% Anthony - 13.9 Charlie - 12.8 Debs - 22% Daniell - 18.1% Kim - 14%

I refuse to believe at all that Jon is 11.4%. Theres no way in hell.

+Milan Vukašinović at 11% anyone would be very lean even if a lot of fat is in the stomach area
@jamalazid16728 жыл бұрын
+Milan Vukašinović you have to consider muscle mass as well. I've seen a dude at 18% bf with a six pack but he barely had any muscle at all.

Dude. Fuck Jon that bitch boy. He lost like 40 pound si like five months and went from 21% to 11.4%. Such a stupid result

Love the way you did this video!!! John and Gio look so similar I couldn't believe how different their percentages were. Sean wasn't fair cause he had his shirt on. I got 8/16 50%. Some people looked waaaay off from what the test showed.

For those saying this test is not accurate, and the male members body fat are inaccurate ill state this for your consideration; Mr.

+Mr. Tuna Please keep in mind that I am stating my opinion based on the average and healthy levels of mens body fat percentage with consideration to their respective sports (strongman, powerlifting, weightlifting, etc.)
@wtip4078 жыл бұрын
+Mr. Tuna Agreed that strongmen don't need to be in Olympia shape, and would likely reduce performance, but I have a hard time believing some of those results are accurate. For me it seemed to show results across the board with lower estimates than expected, apart from that one slim guy who was 16 %. Take the 4 big guys toward the end, according to the results some of them have a calculated FFMI of over 31 which is better than a lot of previous Olympian winners (Arnie etc.) and well out of the natural range.

A very helpful video, and thanks to all who participated. The results might be a fair bit off, but keep on doing what you're doing. It really can be hard to guess what someone's BF% is by just looking at someone.

Damn, this test is extremely generous. If I was there, I think it would have showed me at 6-7%. lol There's no way that guy was below 10% and the other one at 11% was way off too. Also, none of the ladies should have been below 20% imo.

these results are way off, nut not surprising thesw mibile hydrostatic bf testing places are junk, they don't do residual lung volume measurement, so the tests can be 5 to 8 percent off.
@tui14187 жыл бұрын
there is just no way that 183cm guy is 11.4 bodyfat. no way .
@Pelmite7 жыл бұрын
you haven't seen his legs so how would you know some people just store fat in different places
@brianingle7997 жыл бұрын
Well In all honesty, what the guy even stated was that the methods we are used to are generally 5-10 percent off, so when you start measuring people that are traditionally considered 18 percent bodyfat, and then find out that he is 12 or so, just proves what he is saying. Just because you are used to gaging bf percentage off of looks based off of other tests, doesn't entirely mean that you are right. Consider it.

I was actually better at guessing women than men, the abs thing was really confusing until you talked about it at the end. You could see yours at like 13% but some guys you couldn't see at less than this.
