Thank you so much for saying dark underarms and knees in poc is normal. As an Indian woman I have been searching for ways to “fix” them for years. After this video, I think I might just learn to accept them! Thank you Michelle!

+2 from another indian! The beauty standards in India can make anyone feel ashamed about their skin. In fact.. sadly, it’s the case with dermatologist also. I have met like 2-3 of them and they’d not consider PIH to be normal. They’re like, it’s cause you scratched your pimple it left a mark behind.. despite of me telling her that I didn’t. I hope people would understand that! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ladies I am also of Indian descent and can relate to the shame related to dark elbows and knees. My body was SCRUBBED raw by my mum with alcohol and soap to "clean" it. Unfortunately I stopped all of my children from kneeling on the ground carpet or anything to prevent hyperpigmentation. Well, I found that using a dyi turmeric mask has helped remove hyperpigmentation. It works and we have most of the ingredients in our kitchen. I hope you have success with this. I've used the chemicals for hyperpigmentation and I dont like it so i am teaching my kids different to build their self esteem and let them know its normal.

As I have eczema I can't ignore my body skin and have to moisturise it daily and thoroughly. My best tip is to double moisturise. After a shower with something super gentle, I moisturise damp skin with a moisturiser that contains ceramides, HA and other more expensive ingredients in a thin layer. I then slather on a thick occlusive cream which locks in the moisture and/or body sunscreen depending on the weather. During the Winter I apply another layer of thick cream at the other end of the day from my shower routine. I also twice a week use a chemical exfoliant on rough patches - my fave is Ammeliorate, but always layer on something super moisturising afterwards. When buying body products and paying attention to ingredients, don't be frightened to use a good quality body moisturiser on your face/neck/chest overnight - especially on super dry skin. They're formulated to be much richer/more occlusive than face creams and due to the size they can be really economical to use on the face. I like the LRP Lipikar balm in the Winter as my night cream or sleeping pack (200mls for £15 as opposed to £15 for 40mls of their face cream). This only really works for dry/irritated/atopic skin though and oily skin will hate the greasier feel. I use fragrance free body care due to my own skincare needs and wouldn't advise a heavily scented body cream used on the face, in case that wasn't clear. I live in Scotland where it is cold for much of the year and my skin needs a lot of moisture/hydration. Going from the cold outside to the centrally heated warmer inside plays havoc with my skin on face and body. Other climates will have different challenges. Best wishes.

I love how you mentioned to take care of our skin on the body. I have always taught our clients that the skin on the body is as important as the skin on the face. I love body oils and sugar body scrubs and using a body brush every time you wash to prevent calloused, crepey skin and darkening. You have about 5 min after your shower ( I think it’s seconds) to lock in Moisture so applying any of these in the shower is a perfect way to have soft healthy skin. 🙌🏻🍑Lisa Peaches Skin Care

Id like to add be conscious on the kind of soap you are using. Saponified soaps, like Dr. Bronners, or the pretty handmade bars you see in Whole Foods, have a high pH and are more intensively stripping to the skin. It is much gentler to use a syndet cleanser, like a dove soap bar. In summary: a syndet- based cleanser is gentler and less likely to cause dryness, saponified soaps are more likely to feel harsh and stripping.
@AllenZen
@AllenZen 3 жыл бұрын
interesting!, and do you happen to know if neutral glycerin soaps are good too?
@Taradays
@Taradays 3 жыл бұрын
I think DOVE removes a lot of good oils though in their soup and then adds it go over products? Also remember as someone who has been to China DOVE owns the Chinese market in body washes sadly. Which means animal testing but a lot of these companies do that and have to for the Chinese market.
@IntoBlackHouse
@IntoBlackHouse 3 жыл бұрын
Tara Doherty since their sensitive skin bar is a syndet bar, I think, there is no glycerin produced as that is achieved through saponification. Also this bar soap has a neutral pH. If you check out it’s reviews on makeup alley or many other places, it is rated very high. A lot of people seem to have good luck with using it on their face too. It may not be as gentle and hydrating as say the Bioderma Shower Oil, but I’d say it is very gentle and not harsh.
@IntoBlackHouse
@IntoBlackHouse 3 жыл бұрын
Alan Fernandez I am not sure about glycerin bar soaps. If I’m not mistaken most if not all glycerin soaps are make via the saponification process. if you read the formula on the back and it contains saponified oils then you should keep in mind that it is impossible to have a soap like that with a pH less than about 8-9. Honestly though it might not matter as much if it also contains added emollients and occlusives to counteract the higher pH. It just depends on your skin. From my experience the glycerin in glycerin soap doesn’t help much to keep the skin moist. Instead I would suggest using a syndet soap, and after you bathe, and are still damp, slap on your moisturizer over the damp skin. That will help a lot.
@humanbean8590

Good point and the silly thing is, I saw a sapon soap company with essential oils added, I think it was Schmitt's which makes those natural deodorants, that marketed itself as being natural and gentle. It's owned by the same company as Dove! But the whole natural thing is it's brand image. I questioned them on social media about their claims that it's gentler bc its natural when Dove (also owned by Unilever) has it's own marketing about how syndets are less striping than soap. The claims of these two brands contradict each other. I guess they are trying to appeal to different areas of consumers.

I’m one of the people who needs constant washing and exfoliating of my body because I easily get keratosis. I recalled years ago before using the Korean scrub towels, my arms and legs have a lot of annoying bumps. My mom always pointed it out when I wore short sleeves. But ever since I used the towel and exfoliated, my skin has become soft and smooth. Now, my mom forgot that I even had keratosis back then.

I love the gentle body washes, but they’re not going to get the level of grime I get from my job off of my skin. As an Indian girl with medium/dusky skin, I would always feel like there was something wrong with my skin when I'd see all my lighter skinned friends (Indian and otherwise) with even coloured knees and elbows. I use a body scrub regularly and also moisturise daily, so I could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Being 60, fair skinned with freckles, and living in the desert almost my entire life, I have a lot of age spots, especially on my arms and hands. I decided against hydroquinone, since you have to stop using it for a period of time and it comes back. Like, what's the point, lol. So far, AHA has been the one thing that will reduce the darkness of my age spots. I use the Paula's Choice 8% AHA, but I want to try Alpha Hydrox AHA Lotion, and Glytone, although it's pricey. I''m also using Eucerin Lotion with lactic acid, which is good, but not as good as AHA. But most of the spots are still there, it only makes a slight difference. Still, I keep trying! Regarding knees, I have found kneeling makes it worse, which I do frequently while cleaning (especially cat litter boxes!). Since avoiding kneeling, my knees are getting lighter. I realize that won't work as well for POC, but it might help a little bit.

I take care of my body skin the same way I do my face skin. I noticed that this year a lot of content creators are now speaking about body care this year, which I love. I have learned to turn the water off while I cleanse myself in the shower.

I don’t have tons of money so to maintain good skin below the neck I use shower stuff like a Sponge Loofah + Cleansing Towel for Back + Korean Italy Towel (mit) + A Non-Stripping Body Wash and also Authentic KojiSan soap but only I have hyperpigmentation I’m trying to fade fast. I run the Salicylic acid serum soaked pads I use for my face on my neck, chest & underarms. To get the rest of the serum used. I may also use it on my knees/elbows if they’re darkened or rough for some reason. When I have the ordinary’s glycolic acid instead of just their lactic acid I use it on my underarms. Great for deodorizing & skin darkening. The lotion I use all over my body except for my face is Amlactin. Lactic acid is very hydrating, texture smoothing/softening, exfoliating, brightening & helps speed up fading hyperpigmentation. I feel like the hydrating & texture evening benefits are amplified if you use it after shaving in the shower. Seems like the best affordable option since retinol body lotion from highly trusted brands are usually in to small of bottles or insanely expensive. Besides that I just use my regular hydroquinone cream on my body as a spot treatment when I need it, use any hand cream after washing or sanitizing my hands, and wear sunscreen on exposed areas daily

I definitely appreciate a fragrance free product! I don't have TOO much sensitivity to fragrance EXCEPT in the winter months (I live in a very cold climate)! I'm also a bartender, so my hands can be more sensitive. I don't avoid it entirely, but I like having the option , and body products really ARE harder to find fragrance free options for.

Before summer I started using the ordinary glycolic acid toner on my arms (because of your recommendation to use as a deodorant, because it wasn't working for my face) and a bodylotion with BHA from Paula's Choice. And my arms started to clear up at the end of summer, but now that winter is around the corner and it's getting colder, my kp has gotten a lot worse agan 🥺

I like using AHA's, PHA's on my body, especially glycolic acid and mandelic acid. I use DIY 10% glycolic acid toner both for face and for body, it boosts hydration and smoothes skin. :) I'll try to us it as a deodorant. Stronger solutions of mandelic acid (40%, washed-off) are great for feet. I also like to use my vitamin C serum or lipoic acid serum for body. Thank's for tip about retinol :)

Hi! Love your videos. I would love if you could make a video about Microplastics in skincare. I even saw Dimethicone listed as a microplastic to avoid to protect the envirorment, but I smell lots of incorrect infromations about it and green washing. Should we be concerned about Sylicons in the way they react in the envirorment (oceans etc..) Like we would we actual microplastics in scrubs? thanks!

I have really been wanting to try the necessarier products, but I just sent my hopshop box yesterday. So they will have to wait until my next US spree. I currently use TO 7% glycolic acid mixed with my trusty Illiyoon ATO ceramide cream or lotion depending on the season on my body but i also use the bum bum cream on top as I feel I need a little more and it smells great. I am currently looking for a great shower product thought with some actives. My skin on my body don’t get any sun from Nov-April, as I suffer from heat intolerance from MS anything over 24c and my body is out of action so I don’t get out much. as you know Melbourne can be hotter than hell sometimes. Stay safe and sane ❤️😊
