Exactly! there's very little talk about truly "duty" grade comms setups. I'm talking quality durable handhelds and antennas. There's also very little mention of encrypted comms for obvious reasons.

I like the mesh-covered bnc cable. It allows some movement of the cable in service loops. Ideally, we should have molle clips that help create strain reliefs to isolate the connectors at the radio and antenna base. I broke the connector at the base of the antenna using the raptor tactical mount while rolling over from a prone position. There is also a lack of understanding of service loops and strain relief methods to avoid excessive tensile strain on the connectors. None of the solutions protect the antenna base or base connector from radial loads and usually break on the first mishap. It is important to keep comms up.

I was an 11B RTO as well. Late 80’s early 90’s. My son is now a TACP in the airforce and it’s surprising how much commo has changed, but also surprising how little some things have. Size of radios is one of the latter. Small than the PRC77 I carried but not as much as you would think.

Does this affect reception? If not, can you provide a source from someone like Motorola?

body whips will affect your ability to receive and transmit. From my experience your range can be significantly reduced depending on what you are doing, how far you are trying to communicate and the terrain youre working in. As far as for motorola radios. Caatail and Disco both have connectors to run the relocating cable or the body whip.
