Lee Priest talks about training legs and of his days training with Tom Platz.
I got asked Lee to address the youtube experts who constantly give Lee advice on how to squat. No doubt this will get some response from the squat police!!
Lee likes the Powertec Leverage Squat as it takes the load off the back and knees. I remember the day we loaded up over 300kg on his Powertec Multi System in his home gym.

Listening to such a legend as Lee Priest recount his training time with Tom Platz, THE Golden Eagle is incredibly inspirational. The reason Mr. Priest and Mr. Platz were champion bodybuilders was because of the level of work they put into it. You get out what you put in with the Iron Game.

Sad neither one won an Olympia if the 212 existed back in the day lee priest would probably have more titles than Ronnie Tom Platz highest placing if I’m not mistaken was third at an Olympia event and I also believe if a different Olympia class existed at the time he would’ve been an Olympian as well

Im jealous in a good way that Lee had that chance to workout with Tom. One of my dream would be to see Tom going crazy with his workout especially leg extension and squats. And fact that Lee says its true makes it even more legendary 😄.

When he says stopping at parallel keeps the stress on the quads and off the glutes, that's not really true. The glutes are involved no matter what. And, the biomechanics of squats are so structure-specific that they hit different people in very different ways depending on their frame and skeletal proportions.
@Oatmate
@Oatmate 6 жыл бұрын
His actually completly wrong, at the bottom the tenision is taken away from the glutes, and becomes quad dominant.

I ALWAYS go ass to grass and full range of motion. I just could NEVER STOP PARALLEL. ✋️. It feels too weird and unorthodox and like I'm not getting the full range of motion stopping short. Just my opinion for my body type.

I'd like to see what Lee's idea of parallel is, since that's where powerlifters are required to go as far as depth when competing. Not a diss, I just imagine his idea of parallel is in reality a few inches above parallel.

It is not written in stone that you need to go ATG. Really tired of hearing this tbh. His leg development speaks for itself. Parallel is enough for me and for many. My legs are very long in comparison to my torso and it makes it almost impossible for me to have my ass touch my calves unless I take a super wide stance and at that point it puts too much stress on my groin and my adductors take over. Everyone is different and there’s no one size fits all

I'm gonna do ten sets of hack squats before I watch this video. I believe that's the price worthy of admission here given we are in the presence of a legend Lee Priest.

You’d be better off doing 2-3 sets of hack squats with complete failure than doin that shit ton of volume stuff
@incomemobile8566
@incomemobile8566 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperLari1234 I do volume for the simple reason is that I 💕 (really enjoy) doing the exercises on each and every set. Stopping at 3 would make feel so deprived of so much pleasure I'd do twenty but there's a lot of other exercises I also enjoy getting to. I do however go to complete and utter failure on sets 5-10 which is extremely satisfying knowing that my stamina grows with each successive workout. I do a 4 day on, 7 day rest cycle that's complemented with intermittent fasting, some light cardio, and body weight exercises at home to keep pushing blood and nutrients into the muscles. This way I'm only in the gym 12 times a month for about 90 minutes with each "treatment". The pump is incredible. The body parts are always soar for four to five days after hitting them, and lately by eating lots of garlic the gains stay and the blood pump is outrageous even while at rest. I'm no longer a slave to the gym. But rather, after such relatively long layoffs in between, I find myself chomping at the bit to get back in there. Sort of like training a race horse, he only gets to full speed occasionally. Lots of rest, lots of nutrition, lots of time available to pursue other equally important interests. Stay 💪 my friend. Keep pumping hard.
@SuperLari1234
@SuperLari1234 3 жыл бұрын
@@incomemobile8566 i mean i don't know how you train but if you do 10 sets of squats,you probably don't go to "complete and utter failure" if you go to complete failure just on 1 set,you're gonna have a hard time completing even 1 more set let alone 5 more.
@incomemobile8566
@incomemobile8566 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperLari1234 I have super slow twitch muscle fibers which means the recovery time required from a full set to failure requires less time than it takes to load another 45 lb plate onto the bar as I pyramid my way uP to sets 6 & 7 before coming back down with forced rep / negatives. I also use chains to add that progressive resistance to the movement. Most people who try it attempt to get through a work out with me, many world class athletes, typically bail before we even get to set #8. And like most experienced climbers who still require bottled oxygen to get to the top of Everest,they just don't have the recovery mechanism in place molecularily speaking which really comes down to harmonics which frequenize the mitochondria DNA to resonate with that source which is the powerhouse of muscle consciousness. Some call it a gift. I call it tuning in to the right frequency which makes the muscle fibers absorb that of which makes us feel 💪 ,. Especially on leg day.
