I used to do Judo too but had to stop due to health reasons. In the last two years I have got into Qi Gong, which I find really excellent for health. It is something you can do even if you are not able to do any other martial arts due to injury. I have found the book "Pain Free Joints" by Dr Yang Jwing Ming very useful. Doing Qi Gong exercises from this book daily for 7 weeks cured the arthritis in my hand which I had been dagnosed with, my hand is completely pain free now. Another book I found useful is "The Way of Qigong" by Kenneth S. Cohen. His website is qigonghealing.com in case you are interested, I think he is the real deal, he has been studying Taoist Healing and Martial Arts since the 1960s, I took part in an online seminar with him a few months ago and personally I think he has deep knowledge of Qi Gong. Good luck to you on your path!
@jeanackle3 жыл бұрын
@@CopperBeech777 In my experience, having done Judo as a kid and Qi Gong (and Tai Chi) later (doing nothing right now; but I should),Qi Gong and Tai Chi are at least as useful to martial arts as Stretching is good for bodybuilding and strength. Stretching doesn't makeyou bigger nor stronger but helps in reducing the risk of injury as well as recovering from injury. So, in the long run, it ends up being very beneficial for mass/strength gains. Qi Gong and Tai Chi are not martial arts (to my limmited understanding of it) but do help in reducing the risk of injury, recovering from injury and, in a way, they can also help in experiencing an otherwise theoretic-only understanding of biomechanics. So, in the long run, it helps with martial arts too.

Even I was probably a bit old to do a martial art, but there is on record a guy in his 60's who got his 1st Dan. so it so depends on 'body toughness' - it's the impacts that eventually stop you dong it. That guy in white really pushing the nerve of the Judoka. Every time Judoka demonstrates a throw, he is trying to counter it another throw. However, The second counter attack also have 3rd, 4th nd 5th (or more) counter attacks. The counter attack that you made after first throw will also have a counter attack but that will be way faster, harder and brutal in return, you babbly will end up with a broken arm or leg. Last thing you should is trying to push nerve of a mast Judoka too much. Regardless of how patient, calm and polite they might be, that patient always have an end but end so terribly. I learned that lesson at the second day of my Judo practice as a 9 years old boy and taught that same lesson to many people challenged me with a fight attempt. :)

breakfalling should be soft and supple while hitting the mat that’s also why you slap the mat on one side to absorb the shock from falling into it. Follow “Be the ball” analogy and don’t slam like a ton bricks into the mat that’s why it hurts when you land. Also when putting your partner or opponent in a armbar don’t cross your legs or fee tree when applying pressure on their chest and neck area cause they could easily escape your submission lock. Even in Bjj or Gracie jj they recommend you never cross your legs or lock your feet together.
