Bodycam: Cop Allegedly Caught Stealing $900 from Man He Was Arresting

A North Carolina police officer was arrested just hours after a man he was arresting accused him of stealing $900 from him in March. Bodycam footage shows Henry Chapman being confronted by Moncre Moon, who claimed the officer stole his cash. Chapman appeared defensive, but Moon persisted until other officers began questioning the situation. Chapman eventually opened the door of his patrol car and Moon pointed out a wad of 100 dollar bills and a receipt from Wendy’s, which he bought earlier that day. “It’s not mine,” Chapman said. Moon said, “That’s my money right there.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police took the accusations seriously and asked Moon for his side of the story after taking him into custody for an unrelated issue. Moon explained what happened in detail, telling an officer he witnessed Chapman take the money and crumple it up before placing it in his pocket. The same officer who interviewed Moon took Chapman’s firearm from him shortly after. Chapman allegedly admitted to taking the money but said he wasn’t stealing it, according to the affidavit. Chapman was charged with embezzlement and resigned the following day.

How would he win a lawsuit? He didn't actually lose the property and the officer was arrested and is no longer working with the department. There was no substantial harm done that could be proven in court. If the officer had gotten away with it than sure he could win, but barring that it's the same as you can't civilly sue a theif for attempting to steal somthing unless, again, damage is done during the process.

The more times you watch the video and watch all the facial expressions, the more it becomes gold. When Chapman opened the door, he practically tried to stare/will Moon into not seeing the cash. Then, at that exact moment, he spotted it buddy in the back looked away like, "WTF Chapman, really?" LOL. Oh, and his politeness disarmed all of them, allowing him to control the show and put a spotlight on Chapman. If he did anything else, they would've roughed him up, threw in a cruiser and distracted away from the crime. Chapman would've loved that.

Naw dude, I totally disagree with that assessment. If they wanted to avoid it why would they open the door and check the exact spot the dude was referencing? They didn't need to, could have said they would look into it and transported him off. Not at all the case, handled very well. Only way your argument makes any sense is that it took 2-3 min before they checked? I don't see that as sus at all, you know how many ridiculous claims most criminals make? They took him seriously when he was adamant.

looked like the Sergeant opened the door and found the money pretty quick... with the receipt. all downhill for the thief cop from there. only takes one bad cop to make the entire department look bad. granted Most of them are bad.

He kept saying that he heard the rubber band come off the money and that the guy was moving around and trying to hide the cash. But they gave him the runaround, repeatedly trying to count what was left of the cash and trying to get him to commit to how much was in his stack. He was adamant the entire time but they were blowing him off. Can’t believe you are blind to these facts.

The lady cop made me suspicious the whole time. She broke the chain of evidence. Once the money was discovered she was not suppose to put that with his money from earlier. That money was suppose to be filed separately because now it’s evidence against the cop fingerprints and all.
