Getting rid of planes after 10 years old is not the answer. I have flown on 1960's, 70's and 80's military aircraft in the early 2000's while on active duty. If your organization takes care of the aircraft in the long run, planes can fly decades. Maintenance and flight training are what matter.
@toddgilbey39795 жыл бұрын
I imagine military aircraft are maintained to a much higher standard than those of civil aircraft. If an airlines’ cashflow is drying up, maintenance cuts corners. Whereas with the military, your budget is much less volatile. Also, thank you for your service.

So sad. I knew a flight attendant that worked there from a previous job. She had a friend that perished on the flight. So sad, a horrible ending. Terrible management in the company, threatening the pilots to fly unsafe aircraft. When pilots write up a discrepancy, it needs to be repaired. The Indonesian 10 year rule was not necessary, if maintenance was good. That shows their lack of confidence companies will repair broken items. Companies, such as Japan Airlines and Korean Air, fly aircraft more than 10 years old. Their maintenance is excellent. As soon as a pilot writes up a complaint, the mechanics fix the problem immediately. Adam Air management complained 40% of their operating cost was maintenance. They were leasing older airplanes at a cheap price, so the maintenance costs will be higher. Adam Air could have leased expensive brand new airplanes at a high price, then their maintenance costs would be lower, and ticket prices higher to the passengers.

This incident happened to the son of my father's brother (my cousin). This incident will certainly not be forgotten in my family. At that time when this incident occurred, my family was shocked and felt unwilling. Can you imagine? One of your family lost for a week due to a plane accident. Our family is angry with the airline Adam Air. Disbelief in this accident is always there every day. But we finally tried to be sincere with what happened. Honestly when I saw this video my heart felt falling and hurt. I was able to imagine how it felt and gripping the death of my brother. I cried when I heard the sound of "banking", that's when all the problems started. The voice was like a trauma for me and my family, because we used to hear the cockpit recordings that were shared by the airline to the family to find out what really happened at that time. When I wrote this I cried, I was too traumatized by this incident. But I thank this channel because it can make the aviation world more advanced and better. Because there are families below waiting here at home.

And for anyone who experiences the same thing as I would feel the same way. The most important thing is to send a prayer to them. They actually just precede us facing the Almighty. So I beg you, fix everything that needs to be improved for the good of the aviation world.

The G force was beyond a human body's endurance, and passengers would be dead before the plane broke up, along with bodies being broken into pieces. Sad, but true.
@Jhaiisiin5 жыл бұрын
It's worth noting that 3.5 G's is very much survivable, given that fighter pilots regularly endure over 5+. Granted, at high g's, most fighter pilots have g-suits specially designed to counter the effects. That said, stunt teams like the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels don't use those suits because the inflating bladders on the legs impair their precision flying. I've personally been at 3.0 Gs before for a sustained period and can attest that it's uncomfortable, but not life threatening. Unfortunately, there's a good chance many of these people were alive until they hit the water. Some may well have been conscious. We can only hope that the plane breaking up was enough force to render them all unconscious first.

Diane Morgan. At the extreme, humans can withstand 9 and 10 Gs. before succumbing and it being fatal. Fighter pilots handle that. The average person maybe 6 Gs and that's it. But 3Gs would not have killed people....and the plane broke up at 9,000 feet....so many many people may have been ejected out into the air and been conscious as they fell to the ocean. It was a horrific accident. Just.......awful, terrifying. RIP

I just finished a book on Airline Crash Investigation and this video brought forth two important factors: 1) Sometimes pilots become so fixated on one problem that is occurring that they become oblivious to anything else going on. It is a thankfully rare, but actual, psychological event. 2) Allegedly some of these Indonesian area airlines were lax in performing world-wide mandated safety inspections at prescribed intervals. It seemed possible that some of these airlines had not been conforming to these regulations. This (alleged) non-compliance would be exposed if a crash occurred. Conjecture so far, but plausible as well. This video has captured both those types of scenarios. Extremely well done.
@MrMudbill5 жыл бұрын
The former I guess is what's called "tunnel vision" in a sense. Still, I find it odd that they didn't notice the audial warnings.
@Cissy2cute5 жыл бұрын
@@MrMudbill It's called lack of "situational awareness". This is why psychological studies are being done about this rare quirk in our brains. The one incident that comes to mind was the crash in the Everglades of Eastern Flight 401, where the pilots were engaged in trying to fix a landing gear indicator light.

Say they were at a higher altitude. The pilot still reacted at the last second but managed to save the plane. With the speed of the plane in free fall, the plane would not be controllable upon rotating. To save the plane the Pilots would have to lower the speed of the plane to stabilise. However the incident has already passed, we just need to learn from this and remember the poor victims.

Any passenger can take control of a commercial airliner whose pilots have lost consciousness by knowing the emergency frequency number to reach the nearest ATC for step-by-step instructions while keeping the auto-pilot on right up to landing the plane. You've got to sit in the co-pilot's seat to handle the job of just turning nobs, pushing buttons, flicking switches, reading the scopes for confirmation, toying with the rudder pedals, pulling back the throttle a notch, and lowering the landing gear just before landing. The auto-pilot will do all the rest. It's the pilot.

The "Mayday: Air Accident Investigation" series had an episode about this disaster, with some more details on the failure of the autopilot and what happened after that. As noted here, the Captain reset the autopilot so that it would not keep the aircraft on the incorrect course that was caused by the faulty INS; however, he should then have kept the aircraft flying straight and level for 40 seconds or more to confirm the new setting. He did not do that, so when he returned to troubleshooting the INS issue, the autopilot shut off completely, and disaster followed.

The pilots were guilty of extremely poor airmanship - and that failure was the prime cause of the plane going into a steep dive. It broke up after its airframe stress limits were exceeded. One of the first things one learns in early days of flight training (before that so important "first solo" flight) is how to recover from a steep dive in a turn, i.e. level the wings - so that the turn does not increase or tighten (tightening the turn leads directly to increased "g" forces and stress on the airframe, and a tendency to go "nose-down" which increases the airspeed), ascertain which way is "up", then reduce the steepness of the dive (and if you were inverted, roll gently to be the right way up). What these pilots did was in the wrong order -- pulling up on the stick to "pull up the nose" of the aircraft merely tightened the turn and caused things to get worse. It was a "rookies" failure. Had they somehow survived, they should have been taken off of the flight-line and sent back to basic flight training - or taken out of the air permanently. Regretably they took themselves out of the air and, unfortunately, their entire plane-load of passengers and crew. When flying visually, the steep-turn recovery is a lot easier than when one is in the cloud, because one can "see" what is happening. In the cloud the instruments may "seem" to be lying, because of contrary sensations one gets from one's own balance senses, but after a few hours "under the hood" or even in real instrument meteorological conditions (cloud) one quickly learns to ignore one's own sense of balance (often, "imbalance") and rely automatically on the instruments and how to interpret them accurately and quickly. These pilots somehow did not learn enough at an early stage of their training or were not tested properly and fully.

@morgus92155 жыл бұрын
rafael Gabriel wrong tho, if there is no MCAS system, the will be MORE crash. Hear me out first. When the 737MAX was developing, Boeing engineers noticed that putting the bigger engine slightly up, the plane tends to pitch up more than it supposed to. This could cause the plane to enter stall. Since Boeing promised the airlines that the 737MAX will behave the exact way as the 737NG behave, they install the MCAS system. This system will automatically trim down the plane horizontal stabilizer to prevent the dangerous pitch angle. The problem with MCAS and the Boeing 737MAX is : 1. The pilots were NEVER TOLD about the MCAS system, nor the procedure to disable it. Since the pilot/airlines were told there is zero difference between NG and MAX other than saving the airline load of money , they decided to kept the system from being known since that would cost the airline some money for a new Flight Simulator to train the pilot about the MCAS system, something that A320NEO isnt doing, which was the plane that created the 737MAX to compete with it. 2. The MCAS had A SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE, which was very opposite of redundancy. For sure you know what will happen if all critical sytem fail to operate. thats why we have redundancy. To create backup If the MCAS system were never installed, the plane would behave very differently with the NGs, which was something the pilots/airlines were expecting. Much like the NEO. Futhermore, there will be more crash since the tendency for the plane to enter stall is much higher than the NGs. I would still blame Boeing for putting the money more important than the lives of people on board.

Drilled into me MANY years ago: Unusual attitude recovery: Airspeed high or increasing, reduce power, level the wings then raise the nose. Airspeed low or lessening, increase power, lower the nose then level the wings. You can't get a PRIVATE certificate without demonstrating competency in these recoveries. The training is received while wearing a view-limiting device (you can only see the instrument panel) while the instructor does what they can to "fool" your internal senses (hard turns, climbs, descents). Then the student is told "your airplane" and must quickly recover to level flight. More fun than is usually legal!

Listening to this on beats headphones almost feels like you're in that plane. Minus the sheer terror of crashing into the sea of course. The thunder and rain sounds very vivid I had to turn down my volume. *RIP TO ALL that lost their lives on Adam Air flight 574🌷*

@Phil Rudd Relax. I didn't buy them. They were a gift I got for Christmas. I'm not going to waste gifts people buy with their hard earned money.

Just a suggestion: Don't use a transition where there's motion, such as at 0:59, unless you're actually switching to a different aircraft. That amount of motion suggests that the audience should prepare to take in a new scene, and with most of the motion going to one side it also suggests movement away from the previous area. Thus it always takes me a few seconds to realize I'm looking at the same craft.
