PLEAAASSEEE build the classic and historic aviation workhorse, the maddog MD-80 series jet! These beauties were the staples of the skies for many regional American airports in the 90's and early 2000s, and now they are nearly extinct! That would be awesome to see someone with your craftsmanship tackle a project like that because most don't (at least not accurately). The MD-80 is so underrated and doesn't receive nearly enough recognition for its unique physical form that you just don't see in aviation anymore.

Hey Ramy, love your builds. Is there a reason you couldn't just modify the gear retract mechanism to go past 90 degrees instead of having to tilt the entire mechanism?
@bennylloyd-willner96675 жыл бұрын
@Silviu Stroe My thoughts too, it seems to be a weight saving boon to make the 100-115 degree angle needed with the first servo? I'm not into RC stuff but I am a tech nerd and really hope he will answer your question.1
@jfan4reva5 жыл бұрын
@@bennylloyd-willner9667 or maybe if he just shortened the mounting plates so that the wheels fit inside when retracted, but were still 90 degrees when extended? That would make the gear shorter, but would eliminate all of the complexity and weight of his tilting gear mount.

For torsional strength consider using ribbons made of nylon or polyestor for their strength and thinness. A spiral rap in contradicting directions will help keep the plane from twisting without adding thickness to the fuselage . Your work is immaculate .

Ramy, For wing flex, you could make top and bottom wing skins using a mould (like your landing bay doors), but lighter. basically, so they are long tips, starting from the engine mounts. Have no chords in them so the chord can compress and the epoxy skin will flex. so basically you have top and bottom skins, with no internal structure from the engine mounts outward. Fishing rods use a similar principle
@RamyRC5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice Chris!
@cloudserph5 жыл бұрын
Another thing to consider is when laying up woven fiberglass with fibers that run 0 and 90 degrees, the bending occurs at 45 degrees. So it would be best to lay up the fabric 45 degrees to direction of flight.
@Magic101trainer5 жыл бұрын
That would help, particularly on the TOP of the wing, as it will also compress slightly more than longitudinally. With the top in an aerodynamic airfoil shape, I agree that maximum flex would be on the diagonal. Ramy, Have you tried vacuum bagging your epoxy skins yet? reasonably easy to do with small pieces with reasonably flat surfaces. It will also reduce the amount of fairing smooth. If you have 7 to a 10kg suction vacuum cleaner, plastic and tape, it can be cheaply done.

RamyRC G'day mate, always love your work there Ramy👍✈...inspirational and informative with a hint of innovation, and always an elegant solution to the very real world model engineering challenges you present👌 Weight vs strength can be solved by 3 easy to apply principals...Structural parts made using only triangles (3 sides lighter than 4) and with holes in them to reduce weight even further, combined with the placement of many more of these lighter triangle contact points to distribute the load over more of the airframe. Your use of CF cloth and epoxy to make a light weight and strong base to join these triangles to would be adding more strength the more of them you put on to it, yet not sacrificing a weight gain. As for your bendy, flappy wings, I'd think an "I" beam construction for at least 2 spars per wing would solve it...hope this helps🤷♂️🤞🤣 Keep up your great work, as you already do mate.✌

This model will be awesome! Nice build! Did you use the 9g cheap MG90S Towerpro digital Servos for the elevator ? if yes i would recommend to use bigger (and better) servos. I use those MG90S a lot and theyre very reliable, but the pull force and the precision is only average. You will really feel the difference with a better digital servo. your elevator authority and precision in flight will improve a lot with a higher resolution on a digital servo. i think its a thing of better handling and to make your most important control surface a lot of safer! imagine your elevator control going down to maybe 20% on a high speed pass. And i have another hint for you: I saw you made balsa boxes for your carbon rods to slide in. I always use Polystyrol Tubes with the exact diameter of my rods. makes a really tight fight and its easy to slide in and out. and even easier to build than a balsa box, maybe even lighter. another advantage is the flexibility of the PS tube on high loads. it wont break it will bend slightly on high loads. if you wont to try out take at least 1mm thickness PS tubes or maybe 2mm on the main spar for example.
