At least you gave it a go, so many closed minded gronks are negative on these things without ever actually even ridden in one yet alone driven one! I'm in my 50's, only been driving V8's since I was 21 (304's, 350's, LS's etc). My first drive in a Tesla Model-S Performance in 2018 and that was it my mind was changed. I still have a V8 for the sunny weekends and nostalgia but going from a car that runs 10's, is a dream in heavy traffic, has no service costs and pretty much 100% free to fuel thanks to solar I'd never consider a V8 as a daily driver again. I don't think people can truly appreciate what 1,000+ Nm of torque 'everywhere' feels like to drive, there is nothing boring about these cars. I'll also add my Tesla gets better 'range' than my modern V8 and is significantly faster. Neither cars do road trips so this isn't really a concern for me anyway, but filling the V8 with 98 costing about $120+ per tank is a very painful experience I'm glad I no longer have to do weekly.

You make an excellent point about challenging preconceptions and trying new things. Like everything there is a trade-off. Drive an EV and you need to be prepared when it comes to range. Daily drive a V8 and accept the running costs. Daily an old car (eg a VS Ute :) and accept the reliability and difficulty in finding parts. I switched from daily driving a manual v8 commodore (which is now my weekend toy) to daily driving an EV (not a Tesla). 20k+ per year in Sydney traffic was getting silly in the v8. The supposed "green" credentials weren't even a consideration. Running cost, comfort and v8-levels of torque were. If you don't live in suburbia, don't have charging capabilities at home, or do regular 300+km trips then an EV isn't of much benefit. Props for giving this a go even though EVs are not your cup of tea. Great vid.

Same here. Plenty of things I loved about my VZ (and other cars after it) but EV is perfect for my daily drive needs. Non-Tesla owner as well

Well done for keeping an open mind . Too little of this in the car enthusiast community. I own a Nissan v8 (y62) and have owned Commodores and the like (18 cars in my 32 years of driving). Also have a Model 3 Performance, 0 to 100 3.3 seconds. Ticks so many boxes. Souless is a strange thing to define and i must say they have a soul of their own . Just different. Keep an open mind guys and girls. I do love the v8 in the y62 though, just not the bill when I put 120l of 95 in it.

I bought an EV despite knowing it's no good for the environment, it suits my very short drives and I like working on my own cars which is just painful on today's petrol cars so I have that along with a 'classic'. Oh and it comes with a 650cc range extender if needed for long trips, so no range anxiety, I don't ever want to use public charging.

And I'm guessing youre driving a RWD variant. Try driving a M3P or MYP.

Had suspected those things would rip! I couldn't get myself a v8 let alone a tesla; Installed heaps of chargers for the things and some I've had to alter people metering wiring on their home! I'm more worried about our electrical grid with all the EVs plugged in, government should make EV owners buy batteries for their home to burden peak load of the grid.

I've got a single phase 32A charger in my garage, that's no worse than an oven right? If my car isn't charging off solar through the day it would be charging between 12am and 6am (off peak)......the grid is fine when it comes to EV's 🙂 I think there was more stupidity in banning gas connections in Victoria and therefore forcing every cooking and heating appliance to electricity that 'will' be used during peak load times.

Great cars to drive with instant torque but to me they are soulless and not engaging at all. As soon as you get back into your 304 and hear the music that it makes you will realise that the EV was merely a novelty by comparison.

I drive a gas guzzling H-pattern straight 6 twin turbo, and is a lot of fun, way more fun than these ev's. But these things are for a different purpose for me. It's to be the easiest to live with errand car or city car, it does it best. Not gonna take it to the track or use it on the b roads for a spirited drive though. They can co-exist, even in the same household. Fk all this tribal bs aye.
