Another excellent video David. I was brought up in Woodside and can remember a manual level crossing on the line (near to where the Lomond Centre is now). The embankment was parallel to Balbirnie Road and in the mid sixties the train crew would throw us sweets as the goods train went past - it is a really vivid memory. As a wee lad I used to walk from Woodside to Markinch over the bridge where you show the Balgonie Colliery bricks to add to my collection of Airfix soldiers (there was a great shop that stocked them). German Infantry, Japanese Infantry etc etc. Thanks again for the vid!

It would have been a lot easier, and shorter, for the line to reach the Smith Anderson paper mill, if it could have just continued along the valley of the Leven from the Tullis Russell mill. However Lord Rothes, who lived in Leslie house at the time, insisted that the line should come nowhere near his house. Hence the long detour through the countryside.

Always seen the viaducts in passing, but my Grandparents lived other parts of Glenrothes so was never out near them. Nice to get the chance at last
