El concierto homenaje a Freddie Mercury para el conocimiento del sida (The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness en inglés) se celebró en el estadio de Wembley (Londres) el 20 de abril de 1992, cinco meses después de la muerte de Freddie Mercury, y reunió a 72 000 espectadores, siendo retransmitido por radio y por televisión para 76 países. La audiencia estimada de la retransmisión del concierto fue de 500 millones de personas, y la recaudación de 20 millones de ₤. El objetivo del evento, aparte de homenajear al artista, era concienciar a la gente sobre la existencia del sida y recaudar fondos para la Mercury Phoenix Trust, la fundación que crearon el resto de los intengrantes de Queen tras la muerte de Mercury.

Tremendo tributo. Recordemos que había un grupo que quería boicotear el recital porque Axl Rose, en una de las entrevistas, había mencionado cosas que ofendieron a la comunidad LGBT. Luego pasó lo que mencionaron en otros comentarios. Según el cantante de Def Leppard, Elton John fue al camerino para tratar de hablar y ver cómo iba a ser el cierre, pero Axl estaba durmiendo la siesta y el de seguridad no quiso interrumpirlo. Axl tampoco hizo una prueba antes. Los integrantes de Queen respetaron esto y además tenían confianza porque Axl siempre dijo que Freddie era el mejor de todos y que lo ayudó a respetarse a sí mismo sin importar lo que piensen los demás. Aunque es necesario saber que sí tenían guiones sobre qué hacía Elton y qué hacía Axl, que partes de las canciones hacian, pero había que ponerse de acuerdo como compañeros de escenario, charlar y alinear. El resultado fue ese... improvisado pero con confianza. Bien por Guns N' Roses. Y de yapa, pasó algo parecido con Slash en el mismo concierto. En los ensayos le decían que no podía fumar, él decía "ok" y tiraba el cigarrillo, pero entró con el cigarro al escenario sin importarle nada, cracks todos.
