Mike Myers played the record producer who didn’t want to release Bohemian Rhapsody. He also played Wayne in Wayne’s World. So the line about how teenagers won’t bang their heads in the backseat of a car is a nod to a famous scene in Wayne’s World.

As a huge queen fan, I look at this movie two ways. As a movie, and as an actual account of history. It really messes with things that actually happened. Freddie Mercury was friends with Brian and Roger - was actually roommates with Brian.. Freddie was NOT confident at first. He actually sang with this back to the audience at first. A lot of songs were changed where they came out etc. Freddie mercury's performance of Live AID had NOTHING to do his aids. He wasn't diagnosed until a couple years afterwards. They did show well how Live AID impacted everyone though... Queen never broke up in any way. Freddie Mercury did do solo work in the mid 80's but Roger Taylor had already done an album before that so that wasn't a problem. The sex drugs rock and roll thing was with all the band numbers equally. Freddie was never ostracized. Just a quick explanation of years of Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody 1975, somebody to Love 1976, We Will Rock You 1977, Don't Stop Me Now 1978, Another one bites the dust 1980 Under pressure 1981 (the album came out 1982), Hammer to Fall 1984... Also, Rami Malek doesn't sing pretty much at all here - Its as much as possible Freddie but when it's not, it's Marc Martel. Ok, I'm done LOL. I do really enjoy the movie but not as a true biopic, just as a movie. If you want some more Queen but with more truth, there a couple GREAT documentaries about them.

Fun fact: For that one scene where Smile is performing "Doin' Alright," they actually got the real Tim Staffell to come back and record vocals to dub the actor over. Also, the actor who played Paul Prenter was apparently so good in the role, both Brian May and Roger Taylor were very uncomfortable, with how much he reminded them of the real Paul (who coincidentally died about three months before Freddie, also from complications from AIDS).

Not sure if you know this but "Show must go on " was recorded 9 months before Freddie's death. He was incredibly weak, could barely stand and according to the band members when he was asked if he was up for it, he slammed the whisky glass he was holding on the table and said "I'LL F***ING DO IT DARLING!!". He did the whole song in one take. He died 9 months later. This was his literal swan song. This man is and always will be a legend.
@MrCraven666
@MrCraven666 Жыл бұрын
This isn’t entirely true. Freddie didn’t do the whole song in one take. What everyone is referring to is a line at the end of the song where he goes all out. Brian was concerned Freddie couldn’t do it, because he was so sick at that point that he could barely even stand, but Freddie threw down a couple of vodkas and said “I’ll fucking do it darling,” and recorded that line. I know it’s not as impressive as the whole song, but it’s still pretty impressive considering how sick he was.

Hey, Timm, since you said you said you haven’t watched many biographical movies about singers, I HIGHLY SUGGEST AND RECOMMEND that you watch the tribute movie “Selena”, starring Jennifer Lopez. That is the film that introduced me to Selena and loved every second of it except Yolanda. I always feel bad for actors who play real evil people because that is how they are seen as afterwards. My teacher had an offrenda set up on a table, below the projector, and we watched the movie, and even though I loved it, the ending SHOCKED me. I do agree that Jennifer Lopez did a good job portraying Selena herself, and the fact that they got almost everything EXACTLY right, and even though we couldn’t understand the Spanish lyrics, no offense to anyone who speaks Spanish, we still enjoyed listening to her music. My biggest issue with this movie is at one point in the movie their manager says that no radio station is going to put on a song that is six minutes long. The movie then spends 2 hours and 15 minutes without once playing the song in full. They play parts of the song several times, but never beginning to end
@crystalsnow1138
@crystalsnow1138 Жыл бұрын
I wonder if that was done to make the Live Aid scene more impactful. I know the full version wasn't played there either, but it would've been overkill to play Bohemian Rhapsody so much in the movie and it gave other songs a chance to shine first.

one of my favorite bits of trivia about the Live Aid show was the fact Queen outdid all performers that day. When they finished their set, David Bowie, who was set to perform after them and was Freddie's best friend looked at Freddie after the show and said jokingly "You bastard" because he had to follow that.

because rami malek said it in a movie? i won't pretend i know every bit abt Freddie's personal life, but he himself said quite a few times he was "gay as a daffodil". and many who knew him and Mary say he went by gay, not bisexual; may have been strongly fond of Mary, but in the end, shit didn't work out, and she repeatedly spoke ill of his and Jim's orientations.

there are so many biopics out there that you could watch here is a list of some that i watched and remember : -The Doors biopic (1991) - The Temptations (1998) - Get On Up (James brown biopic 2014) - Walk The Line (johnny cash biopic 2005) - Jersey Boys (Frankie Valli & The four seasons biopic 2014) -Nashville Lady (Loretta lynn biopic 1980) - Factory Girl (Eddie Sedgwick biopic 2006) - The Dirt (mötley crüe biopic 2019) -Elvis (2022) - what’s love got to do with it (Tina Turner 1993) -The jacksons: an american dream (1992) -Stoned (2005) it’s a Brian Jones biopic, if you don’t Know him he was The founder of The Rolling Stones, he died in 1969 he was 27. it may not be the best film in the world and there would be a lot of things to improve but i recommend it because it helps to tell a little more about his story and i really think that brian jones deserves more recognition for what he was and helped to create, he is in himself a part of history. Also : -The rose (1979) Written in 1973 by Bill Kirby, the first screenplay was a biopic about American singer Janis Joplin, Bette Midler then refuses it, asking that almost all references to Janis Joplin be removed, to keep only the character of a rock'n'roll singer. As Mark Rydell wanted her as an actress, he had to completely rewrite the screenplay. it is therefore not at all an adaptation of the life of Janis Joplin but i still recommand it cause it’ a beautiful movie that you should watch. and then there is also Studio 54 (1998) the movie is about the legendary club of the late 70s in new york where all the celebrities of the time went, everyone dreamed of entering it, it's like a myth. that's all i hope you watch some or at least one of them.

I recommend watching the biopic “Love and Mercy” about Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. An amazing film!

I read a review where the author was upset that they did not focus more on Freddie’s sexuality, but I think that missed the intriguing part of the film. I loved it because it focused on the band and their friendship. It also showed similar themes with Rocketman on not only discovering your sexuality, but themes on wanting to be loved and having a family but eventually trusting the wrong people before you go back to the ones that were there for you in the beginning. I like how this and Rocketman are so similar but not copies of each other.

There's literally a whole plot of the movie dealing with his sexuality

@@アキコ2003 maybe the reviewer just wanted that and the band to not be there. Who knows? I am just glad it wasn’t his whole identity, if that makes sense. They also focused on his creativity when it came to his music, separating himself from his family’s traditions, etc.

Don't take this movie as gospel; a lot of it didn't happen. For instance, Freddie never had a falling out with Queen. Yes, he recorded some solo stuff, but with the support and blessing of his bandmates.

I’ve just looked it up so Freddie left Jim his partner and Freddie’s PA peter freestone and ex boyfriend joe fanelli all £500,000. In 1991 this was huge money. But thing is he left Mary the entire West Kensington mansion where he lived with Jim….he also left his entire fortune , minus bequests to family and other friends and staff….on top of that he left Mary half of all his future earnings from his share in queen royalties…the other half was split between his family and sister. She had kids and got divorced but after Freddie died it all changed and as they said they believed in each other. Freddie always saw it as a marriage. She still loves him he was godfather to both her kids.

You should definitely watch Rocketman if you like biopics. For me, it was on the same level as this movie. Fun fact too: While Freddy was at the truck stop, there was a guy that was panned on camera. That’s Adam Lambert!

The biggest issue that critics, and people who really knew the history of Queen (which did not include me) is that it apparently wildly embellished the timeline of events, and demonized some people that the band had incredible relationships with. It also made up some events entirely. I still loved the movie tho.

it wasn't Brians idea to interact with the crowd that was very much Freddies idea when they were still with smile Freddie critiqued them to have more of a show, performance and include and interact wwith the crowd Brian admitted he didn't like it but got used to it Freddies first deliberate attempt at a participation song was in the lap of the Gods revisited then he wrote champions and Brian wrote rock you

Nice reaction. The movie is pretty good imo even though it's factually wrong and the timeline is wrong. When they played at live aid, they had recently came back from touring. If you haven't seen the full concert you definitely should. It's an amazing mix of great artists and bands.

And the whole solo thing where I would believe roger already had a couple of albums to his own name in reality. True there was a lot of timeline issues here, but since I’ve watched all the various documentaries over the years I can overlook that. The movie was pretty awesome. Especially the cgi Live Aid (well, mostly cgi)

@@systerkeno this is very true, though I couldn’t even tell it was cgi until I watched the making of that sequence, so it’s possible that for once the cgi of wembley stadium and most of the crowd could hold up over time. And… I never see anyone in these reactions comment on how good the actor who did Bob Geldof was. Though I’ve heard plenty from people I’ve talked to on how they could have cast Roger better… I can agree there. The rest of the cast seemed to be spot on almost to what the actual people looked like.

Nothing againts Aidan Gillen, who plays John Reid in this, but I think this is the only movie where he doesn't play a complete jerk? But Rocketman's John Reid is an absolute git. Which you should definitely watch, by the way! Made me fall in love with Elton's music.
