the reason why himmelsdorf is such a great map is because you have good options at all parts of the map. you can go to the hill if you have good gun depression, you can go to the 8 line which allows you to abuse having a strong turret and you can go to the west flank if you are in a fast tank with no armour. the last option depends on timing if you time your advance wrong there you will die instantly. its often better to sit still and wait to see all the tanks spotted on the 8 line and hill then you can judge what tanks you will meet there (this is most effective with the xvm tank names enabled so you can see what tanks are spotted). you can then judge whether you can take on the tanks you are likely to meet and survive and what tactics will work best against that specific tank or specific tanks. for example a panther 2 can usually get away with rushing doesn't the flank against a nashorn by continuously swerving the tank while going at top speed then you can kill them once they are spotted. but if there are about 4 tanks that you can potentially meet its a judgement call for whether or not you want to rush down and hide behind a building or if you want to position yourself in an ambush position and abuse your better view range or just spot them an pull back to get support from your team. it depends on your tank and tiering like being top tier you can be more aggressive than you can when your bottom tier. wow i just realized how long this is and i doubt anyone is going to read this.

i think i have a way of playing this map in almost every tank. i can even make some light tanks work well on this map. best example i can make a luchs or a 59-16 with the 57mm (the 76mm guns suck on that thing) effective on this map. its all about looking where tanks are timing a rush for artillery (if there is any) with the reloads of the enemy tanks or just spotting from a forward position that meds and heavies are not fat enough to get to. you can even be effective on the hill in a 59-16 in a tier 8 match by perma tracking an enemy in a bad spot so that your team can quickly take them out. i dont play artillery (i got to tier 3 in the american arties when the lines went as far as tier 8) but i found it really boring so that is one type of machine i have no idea what to do with on this map. there are tanks which are terrible on this map i will name a few: the awful/scout panther (played it once on an open map on a test server and it was awful there so i have no doubt it would be terrible here too), the somua sau-40 (terrible in general) and the mt-25 (i hated this thing but i heard it could be getting a mobility buff so it may get better and hopefully that buff may improve the t-50 as well i used to love it before it was nerfed in to uselessness).

jingles, i would like just to point out that the T59 did the best possible thing by yoloing his tank. He has taken out a tank driver who is superior to probably anyone on the battlefield, who can make a decisive difference with each shot. Hence i think this trade was beneficial for the enemy team.

The Type-59 and T-34-3 are almost entirely the same only with slight armour differences and a different gun, which has bad pen, that doesn't make the whole tank bad, and the 6 degrees of gun depression is bad too.

I love himmelsdorf especially in my caernarvon in encounter battles. The great gun depression along with strong turret makes it perfect for sitting back on the slope of the hill using it to increase the slope of my hull armor and just sniping tanks that try to cross or pop up. I have had 2 very memorable games (both tier 10 matches) where I sat there and took 6,000 damage and dealt out around 4,000 damage but both times ended up getting killed by an m50/53 (don't ask me how it was the same arty both times lol) but yeah I love it

This has to the best map for me to play on...im very sneaky when it comes to this map...you are best of with playing trollcannons in this map, you can sneak around and get behind there tank... i got my second ace tanker badge on this map in the Crusier 3 with the trollcannon and got 4 kills...i LOOOOVE this map

Seems like it's really varying for everyone. Lot of people I talked to saw FPS increases or decreases. Seems like I'm one of the few that saw no difference, save for Wargaming's poor choice of lighting and some things looking unnaturally shiny.

The position where the S-51 goes to, near the end (towards cap lower ground) is actually where i always go in my G.W panther when im a lonely arty on himmelsdorf, essentially because the Panther has a turret you have an e100 firing HE ammunition on the frontline, sure you can only withstand 2 shots but you got a good angle on teh side of the hill mostly without fearing to fuck up friendly tanks. Also you can dive into that road going parallel to the park to be covered.

They just added this map to the Xbox version this week, it's surprisingly fun in most tanks and thankfully makes artillery nearly useless. Always good when that happens :)

Oh, the number of Frenchies I've one-shotted trying to flank on the hill. There are a few places on the map where Arty can find surprising levels of effectiveness against favored brawling locations. I've personally found that the 0 line spots to be the most worthless locations to try to play as arty on unless you are driving a mortar vehicle. On the southern end, K4 is a great spot to get shots up onto the hill's flanking lane and a few of the hull down positions along tank lane that runs beneath the hill, and taking advantage of a few partially collapsed roofs, K3 gives opportunity all along the 3 line, the sniping windows at the northern end of the field and if you are willing to risk it, a flanking shot on a few vehicles trying to defend a push from D7's hull down position against a push along E7. K1 is a high risk, high reward spot in encounter mode. K7 gives devastating angles along tank alley and can allow you to rapidly push a win along that route, and through periodic re positioning, can give angles to much of the rest of the map. On the northern end, at the corner of the train shelter at A2 gives a good field of fire all along the G line, sparse opportunities on G7 against vehicles further away from the corner, and once again, ample opportunity to strike the side of vehicles trying to flank the hill, though the positioning of the tower up there is a little more disruptive to the A2 position than it is to the K4. Minor adjustments gives you a field of fire on virtually all of 3 line. Firing from the opposite side of the street at A3/4 can give you an angle on the hull down debris around H3 and sidescrapers further south at J3. A7 and A8 have positions that allow you angles along both sides of tank alley and serves a similar role to the K7 position in the south A5 provides a closer area to support the flank on the hill from, leading to higher accuracy with your shots, and less shell flight time thank the A2 position provides to that role, but at the cost of shell descent angle. A0 feels to be an overly poor position for non-mortar artillery for all the reasons highlated in this video. K0 does offer angles into the 3 lane for broadside shots on sidescrapers at D3, and is open enough to allow you to adjust your aim elswhere across the map. I have on several occasions, scored 4k damage on this map with arty mode shots in my 212A. There is no shortage of viable spots to shoot from, the issue is that each spot is very limited in the areas that they can reasonably reach. More mobile arties can excel if the driver is willing to shift around from position to position as opportunities vanish or arise. Still, it's incredibly frustrating to play this map even armed with this knowledge as many times you pick a spot to shoot from, the location you are able to aim for from there can end up being unoccupied by the enemy. If Mortar Artillery is in play on this map on the other team, well... pray they aren't aiming for you, because hugging that wall for dear life probably isn't going to be enough.

There are only a couple spots in Himmelsdorf where arty does any good. Of course, the ledge that everyone favors. And then the north/south ends of the train tracks. And the only other spot worth mentioning is the Cathedral. You can reach the cap circle and some of the ledge from the Cathedral spot...

***** The Type 59 was probably the best tank in the game, back when it was always top tier against tier 5 tanks and when it had seeming better speed, armour and a better gun. Now its been nerfed pretty hard and is about as good as any other tier 8 premium. Most people will hate it due to its armour though which allows the Type to bully lower tier tanks. A tier 6 tank will not be able to get through the front without premium ammo. Tier 7's can still struggle as well.

Ghork1 Not you, Christopher.... The type is still pretty OP.. damn good maneuverability and speed. Good hull armour- pershing cant really pen frontally without hitting the lower plate, which is quite hard to do when it's weaving at 50kph. High DPM accurate etc etc... it's a slightly nerfed t54 at tier 8!

I prefer to use Arty's myself and just a heads up for those that work them ever so often to tier up or for cash, on this map depending on side setup at A5 or k5 you can soot around the castle for the most part and hit them as they come up, fall back or try to stall out the outer ring.

If I'm playing Arty, I always groan if I spawn on Himmelsdorf, it really is a problematic map, very few places of concealment, where you can actually hit anything, because of all the buildings. I found the only way to help team mates on the hill, is to actually go up it until you are just below the brow, so you can actually hit things, but it is very risky, if your team mates can't stop a quick light tank getting to you, you die. I once did Himmelsdorf, where the computer put 5 Arty on each team, one third of the tanks. It was a nightmare.

To be honest, I don't think QB was "yolo'd" in that winter himmelsdorf game; potentially, the type 59 saw he was one of the best (if not THE best) players on the enemy team, and opted to take him out before he could carry the game. As such, I think it was a good call by that type, and not at all "throwing away his tank".

18:11 was bad prioritization. If you're going against 2 opponents and 1 is on reload and you know you can kill both while the one reloads you always go after the one that can shoot/kill you first. Now if you thought the AMX was going to get away that's a different story but as you pointed out they were becoming surrounded.

Jingles in regards to saying that circon and foch were not good enough to make the t34-3 work to its best its more of less do the enemy team know how to stop you and by that i don't mean a bad enemy team is needed, just a team who doesn't know how to play against the strengths of the tank if they don't your in for a field day driving it, if they do cower behind whatever is around and hold them off best you can its a wonderful machine and on that note one day i hope to get my hands on the wonderful type 59

18:25. Actually facehugging opponents in the 110 is bad idea. First they can shoot at your capolas with relatively easy cause they are mainly higher than you. If you stand a bit further back, like you would in an IS-7, they cannot penetrate either your frontal plate upper, or lower, neither your turret. ;)

i had a problem with my 9.0, and that was team killers... i hadn't played WoT for a long while as i was busy playing War Thunder and getting into it. I decided to play WoT again as i missed it. First match in about 5 team kills... i have the replay still is anyone wants to see the terrible match, but i tried to stop it go further but it didn't work.
