Great video brother. Just a heads up you could always re-pressurize that expansion tank and replace the Schrader valve. If it’s not full of water that diaphragm is intact. I’ve done this a few times with zero callbacks. I’d love to hearYour thoughts on that.

I think I seen you on another job where you couldn't get the tank off and you cut the pipes and redid it in same location? Wonder why that wasn't done here. Either way, as long as the thing operates and is safe, that's all home owners care about.

I’m here thinking about diy’ing my way through my boiler issue which seems simple. It’s just a leaky pressure relief valve. But now I feel I need to have a professional come and do a proper job and look over my gas boiler. I think it has a lot of life left and I don’t want to be the clueless homeowner that screws it up lol.

I had a Weil McLain gas boiler installed 2 years ago within the first year the elbow going up to the pressure relief valve starting rusting and leaking the guy came back and changed it..once again I check it less than a year later same thing. I believe the original pressure relief valve came preinstalled I'm trying to figure out when it was installed if it's normal protocol to leave it be or to pull the black pipe going into the boiler and add dope and tighten it down. Unless it's a faulty expansion I'm trying to figure out if the boiler might look just as crusty where the black pipe screws in. Also if the connection going into the boiler is rotten and this continues to happen did Weil McLain sell me a bad boiler is it the installers fault? Any input appreciated!

Couple questions about this boiler maybe somebody can answer. I have what looks to be the same model, and I'm looking to purge the air out, but it seems it was installed differently in my house. Instead of having a shutoff valve on the return, along with a purge valve above that, it has neither. Instead, things seem to be the opposite. The circulator seems to be inline with the return side on mine where this unit in the video appears to have the circulator on the feed side? Almost seems like I need to reconfigure how mine is installed, because it makes no sense how it was installed to me. :/ Also, is that water feed valve (the one that lowers the pressure to inject water into the system) installed to feed into the water output from the boiler? I guess perhaps that location doesn't matter, just curious
@BillyN312 жыл бұрын
Water feeder in boiler supply typically. It reduces street pressure to 15-20 psi. Doesn’t matter if your circulator is in supply or return

A good trick if you have a really stuck tank. Heat the threaded portion with a torch a bit ( you already knew that part ) then after canadian tire or such had their sale and you bought 4 pairs of chain grips for 60 bucks connect a few together and form a really big chain complete with voice grip handles..,mind the pipe, you are now torquing with a much much larger lever ( maybe didn't know that part though ) . ;) great video

Wow, you have a tough crowd. So many busting your chops. Not Necessarily this time, but generally. I’d have left that expansion tank there, too. Why open Pandora’s box? Mark it as out of service and date the new one like you did. Out of sight, out of mind. Put it all in the service tag. Even if you’re not the next tech. it’s all there. I’ve never seen you jury rig anything, and always came to the correct solution. Much of your customers equipment is from when you know who was a child. All of these second guessers. Way back when, I worked on industrial water de ionizers. Like a softener. Instead of salt, cation was regenerated with HCL, and the anion bed was regenerated with NaOH, ( caustic soda). My sales rep. was alway pissed at me because I only replaced control valves when determined to be bad. His position was swap them all, replace the injectors, replace all return springs (they were stainless steel). He only made money on parts replaced and I wasn’t with his program. So, bag it with What makes big bucks. My customers were loyal and asked for me , knowing that they were treated right, not just getting the shaft. Ultimately, we all prospered. I think you are a pro. No muff too tough. Obviously, servicing this customer for six years and going, you must be doing it right as many, many others are long time customer’s, too. I salute you. Happy Thanksgiving 🍺🦃
